Tell Me About Ztr's

I'll be closing on the new house here in a week or two, and since the "Wonkamower" just won't do the job, as it won't turn sharp and the transmission is shot. Oh, and it has no brakes. $300 for it on Craigslist a few years ago was worth it.

The new place has about 1.7 acres, lots of trees, the house, a shop, and all the various pipes and hole covers that come with being on a well and septic system. So I'm probably going to buy a ZTR mower.

But here's the thing...I'm going to buy a used one locally. Probably off of Craigslist.

I don't know jack squat about them.

SOOOOOO...Brands? Things to look out for?

Hit me with some knowledge, o e-wise keyboard cowboys

If you want reliability, go with a used Exmark, Walker, Toro, Hustler, or Scag. They're all commercial quality, and will be what you are looking for. I don't know what your property looks like, but if it's mostly wide open, I'd opt for a 60" deck if possible. I've used all of these brands of ztr's, and they're all solid machines. Exmark and Toro are my favorite all around, Hustler has by far the most comfortable seat, and Walker leaves undoubtably the best cut of any mower ever made. I've been doing landscape/property management work for almost 3 years now, so if you have questions about mowers or any other equipment just shoot me a PM.

Edit: Of the ones you posted, I'd pick the CubCadet.

How would you describe the sound they make?

I've only operated Dixon's ZTR's but I do like 'em. Of the ones you posted, I'd add another vote for Cub Cadet.

Cub Cadets used to be good, but nowdays they're just rebranded MTDs...

dont get a Dixon, theyre junk!. Woods, scag, hustler, grasshopper. are all good mowers

out of your choices there, Id probably go with the snapper. I dunno what the hell a Yazoo is and Im not too big a fan of Cub Cadet( Ive heard Dixon uses the same design)

I'd steer you towards a Scag or similar. We used them when I worked landscaping in college and they were pretty reliable. I have a Lesco 48" walk behind now. It's of similar construction to the Scag, so I would believe their ztr's are similar too.
