Park back by Daytona 2002: FSN's Totally NASCAR reports that DEI expects driver Steve Park back by Daytona Speedweeks 2002(10-3-2001)

Wow!  That's longer than I thought he'd be out.  I figured a month or so.

Quite honestly I expected him to atleast start the car the very next week.  I'm fairly sure that DE would have started if it had been him, but who knows.

I don't know about Steve anymore.  It wouldn't suprise me if he was done for good, since he will have sat out for almost 1/2 a year by the time the season starts again.  And thats tough for me to say, because him and Dale Jr were going to be my drivers for the next 10+ years.

The man sustained a concussion, and couldn't remember anything.  He still couldn't remember the actual accident last I heard.  I know DE was tough, but geez I don't think he would've been back the next week from that bad of a condition.  There's a difference bwtween a mild concussion and one this bad.  If he went back out too soon he would not only be endangering himself, but everybody else out there as well.  I think he's done the right thing.  Better to take toolong, then to come back and do something to make it worse and never get to come back.  But that's just my opinion.

Well, you kind of took the two parts out of context there.  The second part I typed has nothing to do with the first.  I'm not going to stop liking him just because he is sitting out.  When he first got hurt I honestly did expect him to start the race at Richmond and just run a lap or two.  It wasn't until after he had been gone a week and was still in bad shape did expect him to sit out.  Its hard to say if DE would have been back in the car or not, because he got hurt really bad several times and was always right back.  Dale Jarrett can't remember his accident at Kansas last weekend and he is back.  Never can tell.

The last part which you didn't quote, I still agree with.  I don't know if he will ever be able to come back the same.  He might not come back at all.  Him sitting out for this period of time, thinking about what could have happened might get too him.  I'm not going to be suprised if he doesn't, because this is already two severe accidents in the last three years for him.

Well, first I need to clear something up.  I guess I was in a hurry and not paying attention.  I didn't mean to quote the second part.  I understood what you were saying with the entire second part.

As for the first part.  I know DE was hurt pretty bad sometimes, but this to me just seems like a pretty bad injury to me.  I don't remember DE ever being in an accident where he couldn't evn remember his family, but that's the report I read on Park.  It took him a few days just to remember them.  But you r are right, this might make him rethink the whole thing and never come back, but somehow I doubt it.  DE saw something in him  that he liked, and I don't think DE would've picked somebody who would give up like that.  I think if he recovers ok, he'll be back.  But I guess we'll just have to all wait and see.
