Front Chrome Bumper Swap

I'm just swapping VMaz2007's spare chrome bumper out with my old one that had a dent in it. What a PITA this is. Luckily I didn't have anything going on toady because this is gonna turn into a whole day event.

The first problem that I ran into was that I needed an extended 15mm socket rather than a standard 15mm because the bolts are too long. So I had to head to the hardware store to get one.

Then you have to take the whole front of the truck off to get to the bolts for the fuggin thing. I snapped a few headlight grommets off so that blows but what can ya do.

The second problem was that there are brackets riveted onto the old bumper that I had to drill out and get bolts to bolt it to the new bumper since the new one didn't have them.

Well I am just about to bolt up the new one on and get putting things back together.... wish me luck that I can remember where everything goes back.

I took my chrome bumper off this weekend and swapped it out for a painted black bumper to match the truck. The process took about 3.5 hours, and you are right you have to take the whole frontend off the truck. Overall I thought the job was a pretty easy and did not run into any problems.

By the way if anyone is looking for a crome bumper and chrome grill with less than 1600 miles on them just PM me and will sell both pieces.

I thought the swap was a bit of a pain, too. For anyone who is considering a bumper swap, my advice is to just buy the two riveted brackets and new rivets. The expense is minimal for the hassle saved. Other than that, there are lots of bolts and lots of plastic push pins.

Well I finally buttoned it up about an hour ago. looks a lot better than the big flippin dent in the old one. Thanks Jeff! I will get a picture tomorrow sometime after a nice wash, wax and some chrome polish

I bought a primed bumper from the stealership and had buddy paint it for me. It looks good with the color matched grill.
