Gmpp Cai 17800809

I have been reading and reading about the gmpp cai for the 5.3l but I just cannot seem to get a better answer. From what I understand, the oem intake is just as good as the gmpp cai.

There seems to be no real gain in putting this cai on. Can anyone verify that? Seems that all I would be getting is some pretty chrome....

...and a little growl under acceleration. Appearance and sound were the reasons I bought the GMPP CAI. Don't expect HP or MPG gains.

Just flip the lid over LOL. Its the same thing just sounds cool when you step on it. They make your motor look like its bad and sound bad but not much more. :dunno::D:D

THe GMPP CAI uses a larger diameter smooth tube that replaces the stock plastic air silenced tube. The air silencers built into the stock intake tube is where the restriction lies. The stock box is a CAI design that pulls air from the fender the same way the GMPP CAI will. The GMPP CAI box is for looks and does not seem to increase power vs the stocker. The air filters in these trucks flow plenty of CFM for the operating range of these stock engines. There is really not much of a benefit with an aftermarket filter.

Will the CAI add power? Yes, Mostly in the midrange and topend. Probably 3-8rwhp at peak HP 5200-5600rpms depending on which engine. Throttle response? Yes, due to the smooth tube and increased air velocity.

Yes, It does look really good. I just got mine on Ebay for $195!!

It sure looks pretty and I was shocked at how much sweet grumble it adds to the sound.

I agree!

After installing my GMPP CAI last night I can tell you that it looks good but it sounds rather cheap and unrefined. I'm glad I only have $220 invested, to me it isn't worth more than that.

For what its worth I did a 0-60 run with a stop watch and stock intake last weekend on an overcast somewhat humid day yielding a lightning fast 8.84 seconds. :withstupid: Last night clear and dry day with GMPP CAI 8.64 seconds. The small gain I picked up could have been the humidity difference or reaction time. Either way I'm not impressed.

What were you expecting? :withstupid:

What were you expecting?

Expecting? A tire smoking 12 second 1/4 mile!!! No, I wasn't expecting any performance gains but was hoping for a better sound.

I just installed mine a few hours ago and did a after testdrive. Intake is noticeably louder than stock. Also seems to have made the exhaust note a tad deeper than before. There definatley seems to be an improvement in throttle response and midrange and topend acceleration than stock. While not a huge difference it is better than before. I'm very pleased with all aspects of mine.. :rollin:
