Adding Tpms To My Truck

OK GM TECHS I got one that might stump you(although I hope not!!)

I have an 06 Sierra CC Z71 that I have added a few mods to like DIC, Nav Power folding mirrors, about to add a rear view camera and I am going to be done. However I am havening trouble getting the TMPS system to work correctly.

I have placed all the sensors in the tires, and purchased a different PDM (passenger door module) that had the TPMS system programed. All items were purchased from somone here who added it to their Avalanche and needed a different set up. I was assured that the sensors and the PDM were a match. I plug everything up and the truck seems to recognize the new system, however through several learn attempts the truck keeps flagging a low tire pressure light.

I took it to the dealership and had a friend scan it. The truck calls for 35 psi and that is what I am running in all four tires. However when we hook up the tech II tool to the truck the computer says the tires are at 19 psi, a little more than half the actual pressure. We wen through the menu and found a place to adjust the tire pressure on the tech II tool but nothing that low was available.

That brings me to my main problem. I do not have a screen on the DIC that shows the tire pressures. It just flags the light and says check tire pressure. I asked my friend to call the tech line and ask for a new VIC number for the TPMS but they said it was unavailable for my truck. This is the same guy who got a VIC number for the DIC set up.

So my truck and the Tahoe's etc all have this capability and its available on the same year model as my truck so why not? They share the same systems and parts. I am not sure how to correct this problem other than to remove the TPMS PDM and replace it with the original PDM and abandon the mod. sad.gif sad.gif sad.gif

I have been successful in all other attempted mods so this one puzzles me a bit. I haven't found any helpful info here. Has anyone successfully attempted this mod?

Any tips or suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Was your BCM calibrated for it? You need a TechII to get them to work.

It seems to me GM has "control" of the software for this and they are not sharing!

Also it seems to me people want to add things like this to their vehicles and are willing to pay for it.

And GM it seems could use a bit of extra money...

So if I was GM, I would certainly want to give the customers what they wanted, especially if it could bring in additional income!

Or if they don't want to bother with it, they should sell or license access to certain portions of their software to allow aftermarket businesses to do this sort of thing.

So all you need to do is write a letter to GM and show them one way they could make more money and make their customers happy!

However if you saw the movie Roger and Me, one might then expect to be up against a brick wall with this sort of request. Perhaps if you tried writing one of their head "bean counter" types, they might think this is a good idea?

This would be the financial/money types. Your letter might be more effective if you also CC all the directors of the company along with the president and financial types. And list the CC'ed people in each letter, then each person would see that other higher up's received the same letter and they would be wise to not drop the ball.

For added attention getting with your letter, you might also want to CC a few media sources like the New York Times. Mention this in your letters.

hello

i think i found your problem maybe or at least part of it. you have the wrong sensors. here is a quote from a tsb.

Tire Pressure Sensors

2004 tire pressure sensors (P/N 15136883-single or 17800063-multi-pack) must be used on 2004 model year vehicles. If 2005 sensors are used on a 2004 vehicle, the PDM will calculate the tire pressure value as half of the actual pressure. This will result in a low tire warning indicator being displayed. If 2004 sensors are used on a 2005 vehicle, the PDM will calculate the tire pressure value correctly - no low tire warning messages will be displayed.
