I have a 98 Sierra 2500 2 wheel drive with the 7.4 liter engine.i had it idling the other day and suddenly it died. Now it wont start .I had been having problems with its running and stalling at idle but i replaced the EGR ,distributor cap, wires and rotor and that seemed to have cleared up the lack of power and stalling.I checked the spark it has spark (seems a little weak ).I changed the fuel filter on frame rail.still no start. im thinking possible coil or crank positon sensor or maybe timing belt,Chain.,but i havent heard any mechanical noises.I checked for codes and got none.i would greatly appreciate any input you may have on my problem Thanks in advance

A couple of tests...

1. Try pressing on the accelerator slightly, then try starting.

2. If that does not work, try spraying some engine starting fluid into the engine air intake and try starting.

I tried those already and still no start Thanks

The starting fluid did nothing? As in it did not even start briefly?

If this is the case, then I would start going down the list in the GM factory fuel and emissions book for your year and model vehicle. Driveability Symptom: Hard Start.

Do all the preliminary checks. ECM/PCM, vacuum hoses, ignition wires, and engine area electrical wiring and connections.

Then test/check the other things listed in the book, sensors, fuel system, ignition system, crank signal, etc. (More stuff listed in book if all that checks out ok.)

remove your fuse box and look for any pinched wires, i had a fusable link (big red wire) that was pinched and caused intermittant no start problems. fixed her up and hasn`t been a prob for over a year.

are you able to check fuel pressure? Its a common problem that doesn`t throw codes.....
