Enough about NA%CAR

The thread about being a true fan and about going to the Winston Cup and Busch races kind of got me thinking.  There are plenty of guys who like stock car racing here, so this should be kind of interesting.

How many of you go to your local dirt track on a regular basis?  Do you ever travel to watch dirt track races at places other then your local track?  If you do go, what kind of cars do you like to watch?

As for me, I usually get out to the local speedway about once a month.  I would go every weekend if I didn't work late most Saturdays, and could get along with the local promoter.  He used to live down the street from us, and isn't the type of guy that should be running a track.  Lots of questionable things go on out there.

I do travel to some of the other area dirt tracks as well.  I will go to the Belleville high banks atleast 3-4 times this year, hit the state fairgrounds once, I80 speedway 1-2 times, and Red Cloud, Neb atleast once (where my old man and uncle used to race)  All of these tracks are between 1 and 2 hours away.

My favorite division to watch is by far the Late Models.  Got to love the speed of those cars, and they don't race around here every week.  After that I like the weekly Modified show, and the one World of Outlaws race I will get the see.

I go to my local dirt track, Southern Raceway, at least once a month. I don't have a favorite class, I enjoy all of them. It's the cheapest entertainment out there, other than staying home.

I honestly don't know where the closest dirt track is... Does anyone know of a dirt track in CT/RI/MA?

I try to head to the local paved tracks at least once a month, but it doesn't always work out.  My favorites are the Sportsman, Late Model, and Mini Stock.  I like the Mini Stock because it's nice and cheap to run, and you get some good competition.

I found when I was in Maine, that most of the dirt tracks in the NE have been pushed out of business or paved over. DEP raised too much of a stink over dust reducing chemicals, and water was too precious to waste on a race track.

Sure sucks for you guys up in the NE based on what Friz has said.  They have actually built three new dirt tracks in Kansas over the last two years, which is a good sign in my book.

I do have to say that it is pretty pathetic that of all the so called race fans we have on this site that Friz, General Lee, ekonk, and myself are the only ones who support the sport on its lower levels.  Not really suprised at the low numbers, but damn.  I expected a few more then 4 (I'm sure there are a few who don't post here often)

We have a 3/8ths mile dirt track here.  There are actually several scattered around SC.  I don't know that I would say I go regularly, maybe once or twice a year, although I didn't get to go any last year.  Does that make me less of a so called race fan?  I don't think so...

Me personally, I've only been to two dirt track races, just don't have time all summer long.  Every night it seems I don't get into the house to even eat until 7PM or so, then its usually back out to rinse and clip on show steers for an hour or so before going to bed.  We've got 3-4 dirt tracks within about an hour of us, so I guess we are lucky in that aspect.  Seems to be quite a few dirt track racers also, the small town near me Andover is full of them, its a mass exodus on race night with old pickup truck hauling those car trailers out of town.  Personally, I know I'm not a big race fan, thats fine with me.  I'll watch a race on TV if I have the time, if not no biggie.  I guess other interests captivate me more (of course agriculture related  :D  ).
