Abs Light - 2002 Silverado

I have a intermitting problem with my ABS light. It comes on sometimes, other times it doesn’t. Sometimes it just comes on for a few seconds, then goes away. Seems like a loose ground or wire? I have searched and saw something about a ground wire under the driver’s side door. I found a ground in this location with (2) separate wires… I guess this is the ground talked about.

Any other idea’s or things to check. I do think it’s something simple or loose. The problem stated after I drove down a real real bad washboard dirt road… I think it jarred something loose.

I agree with John (Draenor) that a wheel sensor may be malfunctioning...

Had this problem on my '02 Impala last year .. ABS light would come on occasionally for a while, and then it eventually got worse...., first the ABS light, then the trac control, and then all sorts of grinding noises....

and it was diagnosed as needing a new wheel sensor assembly due to some internal wiring connection, but mechanic had to hook up the diagnostic equipment and drive the car down the street to actually figure out what was wrong... because it was intermittant, you couldn't tell with the car just sitting in the shop....

interesting.... I have a "grinding sound" up front too... I know it not the pads because they are nearly new. I thought about changing the rotors....they seems smooth, but could be out of balance.

I didn't think these two issues were realted.. maybe they are?

How hard is it to change out front hubs on a 4WD truck? I have done it on a 2WD (very easy) but never on a 4wd. I am talking about just changing out the entire hub assembly.

I already had the hub problem a month ago, changed both. The current grinding sound is the front breaks, as it only happen when I hit the breaks right before it comes to a stop.

the grinding sound with the hub is contant

now after a few weeks of intermiting ABS light problem... the stays on at all times. Any ideas?

Have you checked the sensors? On my '98 Silverado the mounting surface below the sensor began to corrode, causing the sensor to lift. It only lifted like a millimeter, but enough that the sensors would have issues reading. I never had an ABS light go on, but I had issues at stopping speed where my ABS would go off (pulsating pedal). This was because my front sensors could not get a good reading, didn't match with the rear wheel speed, thus a time ABS should engage. I used a wire brush to clean up the mounting surfaces, worked like a charm! Before doing this I put in a paper towel to the hole to plug it up so debris wouldn't go inside it.

Was your ABS light coming on at slow speeds initially? Does your speedometer work correctly? Definitely sounds like a sensor problem. You could check the rear sensor (not sure where it is), make sure the wire and everything is in good condition.
