2000 Gmc Sierra And Cruise Control

Hello friends,

I am new here and recently introduced myself and my "new" truck here: http://www.gm-trucks.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=97220

The only problem I have found on our new truck is the cruise doesn't seem to work. Everything else about the truck is in great shape. It is a one-owner truck that has been very well cared for, so I was surprised to see the cruise didn't work. Is there anything I can check myself before going to the dealer? I turn the cruise to "on" while on the highway, press in the "set" button, then let my foot off the gas after releasing the "set" button and the truck just starts coasting down in speed.

Thanks for any feedback.

Check to make sure it is hooked up on the throttle body, right by the throttle cable, you can't miss it.

Ok, I'll take a look. Thanks.

I have a 2000 silverado and when i replaced the intake gasket, I lost the little clip for the cruise control cable, and thats exactly how mine acts.

Thanks again. I'll definitely check it out.

Also, check the brake switch, which is mounted near the top of the brake pedal. On my 01 Silverado, the brake light on the dash would occasionally come on, and cruise would not work. Replaced the switch, and all is great.

Any luck? If that's what it is, the end part is about $8 from the dealer....

I am at work. I will have to wait till tonight or this weekend to check. I'll report back.

An update:

I looked and both cables are connected to the throttle. I also looked to see if there was a fuse for the cruise control, but I didn't see one. I guess it is off to the dealer for diagnosis.

Thanks for everyone's feedback.

David,

Did your shop end up fixing the problem?

My 01 2500HD's cruise crapped itself while we were driving home on the weekend and I'm wondering where to start.

On flat ground going the speed limit one of the pedal jumped up (not sure if the brake or accelerator pedal) and then it started slowing down. Green light for cruise was still on but it won't engage at any speed now. Pedal jump was just like your foot slipped off a clutch pedal by accident, and really gave us a start when it happened....(just for reference of course, this truck is auto).

Thanks for any input!
