I'm A Little On The Fence.....

Well I can't seem to make up my mind, I found a good deal on an 08 Dodge 3/4 ton Laramie that i keep going back to look at cause thats the truck I want next. Wasn't really planning on buying this summer though, I wanted to wait a little longer. I love my truck as a daily driver but hate it when it comes to pulling (which I do a good amount of). I guess i pretty much have my mind made up but i am looking for reasons to keep it i guess haha.

Also what do you think I'll get for my 05 with 125km on it. It is fully loaded minus nav/dvd and is a ground effects package

How much weight do you tow and why do you hate it when towing?

Cheaper to change gears than it is to buy a truck :sigh: I'm guessing you have 3.42 gears and they ain't towing gears. :) If thats your only hangup, I'd be in for a gear swap before buying a new vehicle.

True duals could be hurting your low end torque too.

I know switching to 4.10's would be an improvement, I currently have 3.73's in it. But thats not going to make a world of difference.

I currently tow my 3 place enclosed trailer with 2-3 sleds in it, 16ft stock trailer, and an 18ft flatdeck that varies in weight depending on what im hauling, heaviest loads would be 1200gal(imp) tank hauling water or liquid fertilizer. I don't always pull that loaded, usually use the one ton when i have fertilizer but sometimes I have to use it.

Based on what you tow and the frequency that you tow, I would buy the 3/4 ton Dodge (assuming its a Cummins, I'm not a fan of gassers by Dodge). That would be better suited for towing IMO. If you planned on getting that truck anyway and you can get a good deal on it now, you might as well jump on it. I'll go out on a limb and say truck prices won't be as good next year as they are now. Production is beginning to align with demand which will result in fewer discounts down the road. Your GMC is a sharp ride so you have a tough choice....good luck with your decision.

You're pulling 1200 gal-imp x 1.2 gal-US/gal-imp x 8.3 lb/gal-US == 12,000 lbs of water, plus the trailer? If that's the case, then I can see why you want the "3/4+ ton"!

Go for it. The Cummins is great for towing and daily driving. Your ride may suffer a little, but not bad. The new 6.7 is a great engine and with the bluetech 2012 emmissions it's very quiet, plus you get 17-18 mpg.

I dont know much about towing or anything, but it sounds like people like the "cummings" (whatever the fownk that is) 3/4... but how do the dodge prices compare to a comparable GM vehicle?

just throwin it out there... dont get tooo excited to buy a truck and then sacrifice for something you arent 110% happy with.

Yeah thats pretty much what i was thinking. I mean I try not to pull that big of a load if i dont have to but sometimes it's the last resort. I think i will be going with the dodge (yes its a cummins, not a chance that i would buy a dodge gasser haha) I do hate to part with my GM though lol. Kind of got attached to it.

What do you think a good price is to ask for my 05?

The prices on the dodge's are quite a bit better around here. Plus if i'm switching to a diesel i would much rather have the cummins over the duramax.
