Toyo Tires

Does anyone have experience with Toyo open country H/T tires on their trucks. I am after a good wearing , comfortable riding, quiet tire. I only put 7-8k miles a year on the truck so the tire will have to last more than six years without the rubber dry rotting. Two other tires I am considering are Sumitomo HTR Sport and Yokohama A/T-S. Any info would be great.

Yes, I have had them. I was very impressed w/them as was my wife (important since it waas her Yukon); we bought her a new one and I am now driving her old one. The only reason that I switched to Bridgestone Dueller A/T Revos was b/c I wanted an A/T tire and Toyo's are not very easy to find where I now live, unlike before. I would have gone w/the Toyo A/T had there been a dealer nearby.

In summary, I would highly recommend them in both ride quality and wear.

I have TOYO Open Country A/T's (LT series Load Range D) on my truck for the last 12 months, and I only put about the same miles on in a year as you do. I have been very happy with these, and I expect to get many years wear out of them. I have heard (from the tire dealer and other users) that the H/T is also a very good tire... expected to be a little quieter and a little longer wearing on the dry pavement, but not quite so versatile if you run into any snow or ice on the road. So if you live in a part of the country where you just don't worry about snow covered roads (we have them up here for at least 4 months of the year) ... then the H/T's would be a very good choice, IMO.

No snow, lots of rain in the winter (Northern California). Thanks for the replies.

I HAD TOYO Open Country A/T's (LT series Load Range D) on my truck for about 2 to 2 1/2 years and while I loved the feel and the ride quality in all conditions was excellent all 4 tires developed lots of dry rot in the tread voids. The cracks were tiny but they were all over in all the tread voids. Took it to two TOYO tire dealers and they confirmed the cracks were dry rot but they claimed the dry rot was not bad enough for them to do anything warranty wise. That was not the right answer that I wanted to hear as I do 90% highway driving so I had them removed with at least 1/2 the tread remaining. When I had the new tires put on the mechanic first asked if he could have the old TOYO's and I then pointed out the dry rot and then he didn't want them. Perhaps I got my 5 from a bad batch or a old batch? Even after all the pomp and circumstance that TOYO put out to the press about opening factories in America all 5 of my TOYO's where made in China.

Would I try TOYO again? Yeah for one because they were a much better tire than the GY's I replaced them with. I would however have to hear that others have not seen any dry rot in relatively young TOYO tires.

I've put a ton of those Toyo H/Ts on SUV's and trucks and the customers always love them. I put them on my uncles truck and my cousin uses it to tow his dirtbikes.... he claimed that they performed better than the OEM A/Ts they had (I forget what the oem tire is for Nissan...)

They're great tires, exactly what you're looking for

I know the OP was asking about the Toyo H/T tires, and I don't have those, but I can echo other's comments about the Toyo Open Country A/T's which I do have, 265/70-17's. Very happy with them. I bought my truck used with 25,000 miles on the original 20" Goodyear Eagles. My gas mileage dropped about 2 MPG (from mid-19 to 17-and-change) when the Toyos went on, but that's OK. I put them on a couple of weeks before we had our big snow, and they worked very well in that foot of wet concrete we get around here. Obviously, I changed rims when they went on, I went from the OEM chromed 20" rims to a set of 17" Denali take-offs that the local Les Schwab dealer had. Not my favorite rims, but the price was OK and I like the tires. I've had four sets of Toyos on my Toyota 4x4 truck and three sets on my (now deceased) 1984 T-bird. All good.

Getting my Toyo Open Country's replaced tomorrow. Lots of dry rot between treads . Belle Tire contacted Toyo and getting a a ozone rot credit on a new set, all in all about 65% off a new set of 4. If I was not getting the discount I would switch brands seeing this is the second set of Toyo's that have had dry rot. I am going to invest in a good set of tire covers since the truck sits a lot due to a company work truck that comes home with me.
