Question On Installing Oem 6 Inch Tubular Assist Steps

I found a set of gently used Tubular Assist Steps - Oval - 6 inch Oval, Stainless off a 2007 Sierra crew cab and went to install them and I have the holes and threads for the front 2 brackets by the front driver door but I don't have the threads in the holes for the back 2 brackets by the back 2 doors. The holes are there, just don't have the threads. I can't believe GM doesn't put threads in all the holes so any truck can have these factory bars installed at a later date.

My question is this. Can I just buy the thread inserts for the back 2 holes from GM? It looks like that's what is missing.

Any help from a GM service tech or anyone that might have went thru this and mights have an alternative fix would be appreciated.

thanks in advance..

Thanks Stevens07, thats what I was hoping to hear. I suppose I could use a regular nut and bolt but was hoping to us the factory set up if I could. I will call the dealer in the morning and see what they say., or maybe even stop by.

Might try a Lowes or a home depot. They're just clips with a nut fastened to them. You might also ask the the person you got them from if they are still on the Sierra crew cab.

I have a set for sale that came off my 2008. They take a clip that has the nut made into it.If you look their are plastic plugs you remove to then slide the clip onto the hole. You can use a standard nut and washer setup just do not drop anything!

You can get the speednuts at Fastenal if there is one near you. That's what I did and they fit perfectly. I think they were 6mm. I did not have any luck getting them from GM. Fastenal had them in stock. If you want, I can look tonight as I likely still have the boxes with part numbers for nuts and bolts.

I picked up the pieces I needed this morning at the local chevy dealer for 50 cents each. I just installed the bars and they look great. Kind of hard to do by yourself but I got them installed.

thanks for all the replies.

I have a set of the GM OEM Oval step bars for a NBS GMC Or Chevy extended cab. They are like new. They were removed from a truck with less than 3000 miles. I am asking $350 local sale. I did not really want to hassle with trying to ship them so if you live near central Illinois give me a shout!

I have ALL of the installation hardware.

Thanks,

Mike
