Factory Radio Security Code?

My 2000 Z71 had the owners manual missing when i bought it, so I did not get the 'code' for the theft deterrant radio/cd player. I know if I have to disconnect the battery for any reason, I will have to enter the code to reprogram the radio. What to do? Thanks!

I would think the only place which could give you the code would be a GM dealer.

I installed this in an '01 Silverado out of an '02. I was never prompted for any codes. Also I just replaced the battery, although it was only battery-less for about five minutes, a short enough time span that it even remembered my presets.

I had a similar experience, you need to call any GMC dealer and ask for a radio code, theyll ask for your VIN number of your vehicle and both the model number and serial number of your radio(normally found on the bottom of it) and they can look it up from there(why they need your VIN number is beyond me, but I was asked for it)...however some places will try to charge you for the code, and even more will say its not possible(because the GM dealer will have to contact GM to get it...laziness), however the information is supposed to be free

 

Prepare for a runaround unless you get lucky...I was tryin to find mine out for 2 days calling about 10 different places until one gave it to me...free

It's only a problem if the "theftlock" system was activated. Odds are it never was and you'll be just fine.

If the LED is blinking, it is activated.
