Rear Disc Brake Conversion

Ive got a 05 Crew Cab that needs breaks done on it. I tow a trailer and spend some time in the mountians driving. I was wondering if anyone has convertered to rear disc brakes. Im looking for a direct bolt on kit and would like to keep it as close to factory as possible. I was also wondering about converting the fronts to ceramic pads and slotted rotors. I hear that they are so much better then standard pads and rotors and improve brakeing. Will they work better with towing? Does anyone have them, if so do you like them?

Slotted rotors will only improve fade resistance due to repeated use of the brakes. Otherwise they offer no improvement. Slotted/drilled rotors are not worth the money, IMO, except in rare, specific cases, and an daily driven truck won't fit those conditions. Heavily tracked cars that are daily driven, and have brake fade on track maybe.

In general, go with a quality, high performance pad and rotor. There are several discussions on here about what type/brands of pads and rotors. But, get a "blank" rotor from a quality source, and you will save money and come out ahead. Brake pads are where you will improve your stopping distance.

I wanted to do the same for the rear my self by adding disc. I was told our drums stop better then those discs. Unless you go with a brembo kit or somthing like that. My mom has a 2002 tahoe and she has a 2 pistion disc brake in the back and her pedal is to soft and it dose not stop fast enought for me. Being that you want the factory look stay with the drums.

With the front Get Hawk, or ebc brakes pads. With a good rotor and that truck will stop very nice.

Older trucks had a significant problem with brake "feel" and a soft pedal. Comparing the 2002 to your 2007 is not a fair fight. Has nothing to do with disc v. drums. Properly setup discs will outperform drums. They just cost more.

I have a soft pedal now as it is. My buddies 06 has great brakes and pedal feel, the only difference is that he has an extended cab and I have the crew cab.
