Serpentine Belt Replacement

Im approaching the 150k serpentine belt replacement interval. Do you guys replace the idler pulleys/tensioners also or do you just do the belts? I was thinking of switching all that stuff out just a s a part of PM.

If your pulleys have gone 150K without replacement, I would think that they need to be replaced. They are not that expensive and would give you peace of mind. My truck had 100k miles on it and the idler pully was bad. The tensioner pulley was ok, but I replaced it anyway.

I also got my belts (serpentine and AC) from the dealer, I know they were more expensive than the local auto parts place, but I have never had any problems with it squealing etc. and they are wearing well.

I'd change it if I where you. If it does go bad and seizes, it will take out your brand new belt, and end up costing you more money.

I agree with everyone. If you only had 50k miles and just needed a new belt, i'd say leave them in. But at 150k, i think it's well worth it to replace them now with the belt as part of your PM.

I replaced all the parts on my 5.3.

Somebody has a writeup for just the bearing replacements.

I used the Gatorback belt. Much better design and never a chirp or squeel.
