What Will Be Needed To Charge Batteries On A Trailer?

I have a factory 7 pin plug on the truck. I was thinking about setting up my boat trailer to charge the batteries while im driving to and from the lake.

 

Will I need to run an isolator on the trailer?

 

How many charging amps will I get through the 7 pin?

 

What gauge wire should I run on the trailer for the charge wire?

I know that when you put the fuse in for this auxilary power source, it calls for a 40A fuse so that is the max amperage you would get out of it. I don't know if you could run that through a fuse and to battery, or if you would have to run that to an inverter and then use it to run a battery charger. Sorry I guess I am not a whole lot of help.

You can wire a battery charger with an automatic shuttoff from the 12V pin #4 on your connector and hook the charger up to your battery. The charger will limit your amp draw. Unfortunately, you will need two chargers if you have two batteries. Here is a charger: http://www.etrailer.com/p-2024.htm. As mfennema indicated, you have to add a 40 amp fuse to location 70 in your fuse box and hook up the factory supplied wire before you'll get the 12V at your trailer plug (unless you already did this).
