Is Gmc The "premium" Truck Brand Over Chevy?

Looking at the 2010 order guide I notice that the 6.2L/6 speed is available in the Yukon XL but not the Suburban. Is GM trying to establish GMc as the Premium truck brand? Or is the information incomplete? Or is a matter of engine supply/availability? I'm rather disappointed as I just can't buy into that ugly front clip on the Yukon.

The way I have always seen it and had it explained to me was GMC was "nicer & more expensive" side of GM for trucks/suv. I dont dig the front end either of the GMC Yukon as well, but more of the Chevy Tahoe. As for trucks, my last was a Silverado which I did like the front and not the GMC, but with the new body style, I had to go with a GMC due to the body fenders on the Silverado and the front end. GMC Front end stands out towards my taste out of both of the two GM trucks.

Could be. It's probably more likely that they move more Subs than Yukons, and they are burning up 6.0 engines in them. Once they are gone, they'll probably be all 6.2's.

You might double check it, I have not looked at the Yukon order guide yet. Howerver I know the Yukon has always had the 6.2 available ever since this body style came out in late 2006 as 2007 models. It was only availble if you order the Yukon denali pkg. Same way with the Denali pickup pkg.

 

The bulk of the dealer network was setup to be GMC / Pontiac vs Chevy / Cadilac . So it seems there is often an upscale pkg to allow GMC to offer something similar to Cadilac but at a lower cost.

 

The regular GMC non denali lineup tends to mirror the chevy lineup.

The trucks are made on the same assembly lines by the same workers. There is nothing different about them, other than looks and some options. The only premium truck GM makes is an Escalade.

Whether one brand or another is made better has nothing to do with what the thread is about. It is whether GM is marketing GMC as a more luxurious, nicer, ect. twin brand of Chevy. I think there are many hints that they do, as GMC has the Denali line, and has more available options.

 

And the Escalade is probably not made any different than the Tahoe or Yukon.

The GMC seira and Yukon denali pkg trucks and SUVs share a number of options, including the drivetrain 6.2L with the Escalade.

 

But the regular GMC Seria and Yukon's are the pretty much the same as the Chevy versions.

I'd still love to see someone take a Yukon and put the Sierra front clip on it (likewise with a Silverado getting the Tahoe front clip)... I think that would look sharp, myself.

There have always been option packages and subtle differences between the GMC and Chevy offerings. It's what keep the brand name loyalists coming back!

i've owned a GMC and 2 chevy's so i've got no issues with either;) The GMC seats seem more plush but it might be mental:) I've always wanted to see a suburban or Tahoe with my '03 nose on it:) always thought it'd look sweet

There is a truck I see around town, it's an older, like 2000ish 1ton dually chevy, painted this light robins egg blue, and has an escalade front clip on it, IMO it looks goofy, why would you want a cadillac dually, that to me is kinda like the idea of a lincoln pickup

A lot of the model choices and the way GM was marketing their trucks comes from earlier times when dealers were two seperate groups. Chevrolet dealers had their Cadilac line and GMC dealers were able to offer an upscale Denali package as compensation. In fact, I would suggest the Denali trucks were more about pacifying GMC dealers than responding to public demand. Times have changed and now GM dealers can carry both so it's likely we'll see a further blending in the choices offered on both truck lines.
