Rear A/c Problems On Suburban

Recommended Posts

I have a 1995 Suburban with a sizeable leak in my rear a/c line, and since I don't really need the rear a/c or have the $$ to put into it at the moment, I wondered if it were possible to somehow bypass or eliminate those lines and use the front only. Obviously there are plenty of trucks that came without that option, so I'm guessing it's possible, but I could use the wealth and experience of the brain trust here on gm-trucks. I spotted a Tahoe in a junkyard with no rear air, and if someone can point out what I might need, I think I can go grab it off that one.

Thanks!

I had probs with the A/C on my '95,but I got it fixed.A little pricey(had it done @ a dealership) but it works great.I often have my grandkids in the rear so I need the rear A/C

Yep, I saw that one before I posted. The previous owner had the lines replaced at the dealership, improperly, and the low side rubbed up against the body mount under the right front door, putting a nice long hole in the lines. I doubt it's fixable, and I hate to think of putting the $$ into evac and recharging the system only to have it leak out again in short order. There's no way I can afford to take this truck to the dealership, it just isn't worth it for the 2-3 months/ year I need the a/c. All this truck does is pull my trailers, it's not a daily driver. I was just hoping someone would know whether I can bypass the rear altogether.

Look at the back of the compressor. There are seperate lines going to the rear A/C,maybe you could block them off somehow  ,not sure what the compressor will do though.I'd ask a local A/C shop if this is feasable before I did anything

The line that runs to the rear air has been known to wear through where it goes through the frame. It's a fairly common problem.
