I was wondering how you installed your radar detectors.  In my car there were extra fuse holders, but now in my truck i cant find any extra ones and was wonder how you got it going.

thanks,

Uh, You must not have the cigarette lighter adapter?  I'd advise getting one so you can yank it out of the way quick if need be.

Otherwise, what I've done with connections is hook the ground to a suitable metal bolt, and take the hot-wire and pull a fuse and jam in with the fuse.  It's a little backward, but it works...

I have the that adapter too but i dont like the wire hanging down from the mirror. And I wanted to have it hooked up to so that when my ignition is off it is off.

i had it hooked up in my car with the cigarette lighter plug that i cut the ends off with but i just didnt know if i could jam it in with a fuse.  Ill have to try that went I get home tonight.

In a recent issue of Car Audio, there was a Suburban, I believe, that had the radar detector installed on the left side to the instrument panel outside of the plastic cover over the guages. Looked pretty trick, if you wanted to get that technical!

I have mine mounted above my rear-view mirror and wired it so the Detector comes on when there is power to the  radio i  I did this buy tapping into the wire that go the the radio.  I used an inline fuse and tapped (i believe) into the orange wire ,its the only hot one when the key is on. (check with multimeter). make sure you ground the other wire.  Remember the only way if shuts of is when the power is cut to your radio (openig the doors) or manually turning it off on the detector. I like the detector above the  mirror b/c before the cop walks up to the door i simply put my sunvisor down and he can not see it.  Try getting out of a ticket when he knows you have a detector.  Hope this give you some ideas.

If you connect the wire at the fuse, make sure you connect it to the side of the fuse that will interrupt the power if the fuse blows.  If you connect the wire to the Hot side of the fuse, the wire and detector will not be protected from a short circuit, which could cause a fire if the wire happened to touch ground in some way. For example a piched wire or worn insulation.
