Detailing the Engine Compartment

If you're like me you probably clean your truck about every week and do the engine compartment.  Just wondering what everyone uses to get it clean and keep it clean.  I just armor all on all of the black parts.  Also, I put some red pin striping down the vortec cover, a custom K&N Sticker on the air box and went over some of the raised lettering with a red testors pen.

What has everyone else done???

What do you to clean the hard to reach areas (by plugs and wires)???

303 PROTECTANT is what i use.  I havent cleaned in there in about 2 wks.  Havent washed my truck in 3 because they keep saying rain.

My engine compartment is as clean as it was the day i bought it (well real close)

Don't laugh, but my show-car buddies turned me onto using Lemon Pledge!  I tried it on the Corvette first, and it looks great.  The best part is that dirt and oil don't stick to it the way it does to most detailing products.  When I armor-alled under the hood it would collect dirt and get nasty pretty quickly.  I started using the lemon pledge on the Suburban, same great results, and the stuff is CHEAP compared to most automotive specific products.  I still use window cleaner on my chrome, though.

See my sig for a picture under the hood of the Sub.  Still need to replace the hood insulation and paint the master cylinder and brake booster.

Here's a link to the tech article I did for the site.  Engine Compartment

I've been doing it this way since I bought my '91, back in '91.

Some of the pics are not the best in the world.  They ended up being kind of dark.  I need to get some updated pics.  Mines had a good bit of mud on it, but i found the best thing to do is clean it off while it's still fresh.  Comes off a lot easier.  I usually just wipe down plug wires and such with a wet rag.

I know from JC Whitney you can order covers that are different colors.  I was planning on ordering the red ones today.  It's like 12 bucks and it comes w/ 10 feet of each of the 5 different sizes.  I was planning on changing some of mine to red to add a little color and also to protect some of the wires that I ran for my lights.

Chevy4x4trucks,

Yours looks just about like mine. The Red Testors pen has been under the hood of mine in the same places. I like it that way.

the covers just go over the hoses  it's just wire loom,  any parts/performance place will sell them,  they should not charge over 4 bux a pack.   If you can't find them local  go to  www.streetglow.com  they sell all colors  including the new high gloss ones.
