'04 Tahoe Door Chime disable-HELP! (please)

Any suggestions are quite welcome:

 

I have a 2004 Tahoe base model (work truck)

The door chimes through the front left speaker are driving me mad...

(I'm in and out of the car quite a bit)

 

Base am/fm stereo

No Bose, etc- just base

 

I've currently disabled the front left speaker...

It seems the radio will NOT turn on without the smaller orange wire,

which I suspect is also sending the signal for the door chimes.

(I've pulled most of the wires to test)

 

I already had it at low volume, I just want it to go away.

Dealer hooked it up- not able to disable w/ GM computer.

If this is not possible, I've spent way too much time trying to find a

compatible install faceplate, etc for a 1/2 din radio- Crutchfields listing shows

an old-looking dual knob setup for an 04 vehicle!!

 

Questions (please help)

Is it possible to disable the door chimes and have all speakers working?

 

Has anyone done a successful 04 install on a dash like the Tahoe?

What kit did you use? I'm going blonkers- this stuff used to be so simple...

(guess I'm showing my age???)

The tech/mech I talked to about it lowered the volume but told me there is no way to turn it off.

Charlie is also a custom Rod builder. If Charlie says it can't be done (without disonnecting the speakers) it can't be done.

Just my 2 cwents.

Just get an aftermarket head unit and don't put in the wire harness to add the door chime back...

There is a green wire which can be snipped which will disable the chimes. Lots of messages on the topic last year, but on the Silverado SS board. Go here:

Thanks for the input- I haven't been to the other forum-Silverado...but I'll check there.

 

I did try both green wires (one is actually more of a turqoise color) and the other lime green- both were no joy. I still tend to believe that the unit will not power up without enabling the chime. I've been riding around with three speakers.

 

Probably will just order an aftermarket head unit and be done with this silly, stupid stuff. Now I'm glad I dropped 36K for a new a Toyota!

OK- I did try the green wire from the body control module underneath the dash on the right (A1). It works, but only partially and only for the keys in the ignition. I still get dings when a door is open and the car is in drive (don't laugh-there's a reason) and when the car is off and I go to lock it by pressing the lock button on the door.

 

By the way- an excellent "how-to" on the SS forum. I think I've just about given up and it's time to trash the stock radio. You'd think GM would at the very least offer an option to the consumer to be able to turn this blessed thing off (all lawyers aside). I guess consumer gripes just cost less than lawsuits- I think it costs more in the long run...

I went from a 2002 GMC Sierra 2500 SLE Ext. Cab to a 2004 GMC Canyon SLE Z71 Crew Cab. The 2002 had the basic, terrible single-disc radio, but the door chime was still a module below the steering column. Disconnecting that was EASY. Now, I have a radio which holds SIX CDs and XM, that I am actually considering replacing with my Pioneer/XM unit, all because I hate door chimes. Why can't GM consider the consumer for something like this? Sure, average consumers won't disable the chime, but there are some who would like that capability. They can keep it in the door, just put a disable option where you can change chime volumes (hold number 6 on the radio with the radio off and ignition on).

Geeze, guyzzzz, gripe-gripe-gripe. Fact, GM ain't going to change it on YOUR current truck. Get the Pioneer aftermarket and the wiring adapter and you won't have the chimes--period. Also no audible warnings. NOTHING.

 

There are adapters which maintain the chimes when you add an aftermarket radio, but the chimes come from a speaker module instead (just like the old days) and are no where near as obnoxious since they time-out in a few seconds rather than minutes. I run one of these and love it.

 

Sooooo, there are solutions to the chime issue, just don't gripe-gripe-gripe about it. That will never solve anything.

 

EDIT: Ok, here is the adapter that I use. The descriptor is from the CRUTCHFIELD site. Keeps the chimes, but nowhere near as long---almost too brief. Uses a speaker:
