2005 Gmc Sierra - Roof Console Slide-switch? Purpose?

I own a 2005 GMC Sierra 1500 (HD) Crew Cab with an electric sunroof.

In the center of the roof just ahead of the sunroof there is a ROOF CONSOLE containing the controls for the sunroof, map lights, 'home-link'??? garage door opener controls (I think), etc.

NOW - here's my question:

On the LEFT SIDE OF THE ROOF CONSOLE HOUSING, there is what appears to be a GREY, (half)-egged shaped SLIDE-SWITCH???, about the size of the last joint on (eg.) an adult male's thumb.

This object DOES 'appear to be a SWITCH' of some sort in the sense that one can slide it back and forth a bit AND it appears to have a 'detent' in each position which one might associate with a switch.

HOWEVER, I have NOT been able to figure out (assuming it IS a 'switch') what it is supposed to CONTROL!!!

I have TRIED to find some info on 'it' in the owners manual with no luck, AND, one day when I had the truck at a dealer's for service, I asked a service tech if HE had any idea what it was and HE didn't know EITHER.

Anyone out there who might know what this object/switch is? Purpose?

TIA.

(PS: FWIW, the truck IS equipped with amber roof/cab running lights (5 in total) but the switch? doesn't seem to have any effect of their operation as far as I could tell...)

You wouldn't happen to have,or be able to take,a picture of it would you?

Do you have On-Star?...Almost sounds like the microphone for the On-Star system,Because thats where its located at on those trucks,On the left side of the overhead console.

+1 on the onstar guess. That sounds exactly like the onstar mic to me too. It does slide a little and fits the description.

Hammertoe, is it grooved at all or a hole in it or anything?

+2 I was thinking it was the onstar mic as well.
