General Motors Business Choice Program still avalable.

I realize that in some states it is costly or difficult to become a business. License fees and such. There is still sole-propritorship or self-employed and some states make this easier and little to no cost.

My state was easy and inexpensive.

There are many financial benefits or choices to the Business Choice program including the optional colors not listed on chart.

As I've stated before here, most salespeople know zilch about this program and will easily tell you that you don't qualify. Always speak with the 'Fleet' people when purchasing a new truck. They know.

Every salesperson I spoke with stated that I cannot purchase a green truck. All sorts of incorrect babble. I even had the owner of the local Chevrolet dealership state quite clearly to me that I cannot purchase one green truck. The owner. He, of course, was incorrect.

Certainly this is only for new trucks, correct? Also, are you stating that as a sole proprietor with a registered business, purchasing only one truck, I can obtain a "fleet" price discount of some sort? If you have any info on this let me know, I clicked the link and fished around in the site, but decided I'd be better off armed with actual info prior to clicking "email me a price" or "contact me" etc, and hearing their bs....

Most people who have a business don't know about the Busines Choice Program.

I did extensive homework and research before and during the purchase of above truck. I initially just wanted power windows in a Work Truck. Every dealer stated to me "No". Can't be done.

Then I started to research how to become a "Fleet". I contacted both Ford and GM Fleet in Detroit or wherever.

Here, I was initially advised about the GM Business Choice Program. I do not qualify as a GM Fleet buyer. But I do qualify for the Busines Choice Program as I am a sole-proprietorship or self-employed. In my state it's just a $50.00 registration fee at the Secretary of State office. Other states have different rules and fees. The buyer does need something from the state to prove that you are a business. Others, though, state they just need a business card or tax return. Do check from dealer exactly what documents you need to prove that you are a business.

Business Choice Program DOES NOT give you Fleet prices. But Business Choice provides you with all the distinct options and colors available to fleet (mostly). Obviously, a 'Police Package' automobile may not be available for you to purchase although I have seen this done also.

Ford does not (to my knowledge) offer an equivilent program to GM Business Choice Program.

Most salespeople know OF the program but know zilch about how it works. As stated above, I had the salesman, sales manager, and ultimately the owner of the local Chevrolet dealership tell me in very clear language that I CANNOT purchase just one GREEN truck. Well, the proof is in the pudding as pictured above. I went to another dealer - in fact many. I had to bring in the documentation from GM FLEET website to prove my points. Once the dealer checked - all was fine and I ordered my truck. The single green one.

If you are a business and qualify go to:

Fleet & Commercial GM website

Click onto Online Order Guide

Click 2010 and Cars and Light Trucks

Click Truck

Click Print Book

Click Silverado (or vehicle you want)

And print out Equipment Groups/Optons/Colors/Wheels, etc - whatever option/color you want from menu. Take all these documents to dealer (to help them understand what you are seeking).

If the dealer states that this is only available to Fleet buyers - then you are dealing with an idiot salesperson or dealership. If they don't budge, then find a dealership that does know the program.

Again, my local Chevrolet dealership would not listen nor budge. I just moved on.

I had so many salespeople and dealerships tell me that I can't just buy one green truck that I contacted GM Fleet and they "built" (on paper) one for me with all the options and color I requested. With that information I again revisited some dealers and advised them to contact GM Fleet that, yes, I can purchase one green work truck with power windows. But be forewarned, I had one dealership I was communicating with by email - the salesman telephoned me - and told me absolutely I cannot purchase just one green truck with power windows. He even started yelling at me. AND he told me that GM Fleet was WRONG. I politely advised him to check his sources. He telephoned the next day and appologized and offered me a very very good price.

With my GM points - yes they do apply here too and the rebate at the time - yes rebates do apply (the ones available at time of delivery).

OK, so reading this. Sounds like a hassle. It certainly can be. Some business people just don't have the time or the determination to follow through. I have provided this information to two local business people here and both were told by the salesman that they 'don't qualify' - and these guys just accepted this answer. Both local guys do, in fact, own a small business. They just gave up and told me that I was wrong. Why would the saleman lie or misinform them?

Does the vehicle have to be registered in Business Name? No, it can be registered in your own name or business name.

The Business Choice Program. There are 'Uplifts' and 'Cards'. I took the $500.00 Lowe's card. But if you need equipment for the truck, then there are good deals there too AND you don't have to buy this equipment from the local GMC/Chevrolet dealer. For equipment you get reimbursed, I think, for whatever the limit is provided by GM Business Choice Program for the vehicle that you are purchasing.

If I am wrong with any of the above, please correct me. It has been two years since I purchased my new GMC truck.

Thanks.

I edited this because I forget to mention.

Yes, this only applies to NEW vehicles.

Excellent! That is a lot of info, and I suspect that it will prove very helpful....looking into different options on possibly purchasing a new work truck, now seems like a good time, with all the deals out there. Would have never suspected that I would qualify for the program as a sole proprietor, but that's great. I think I understand what the benefits are, but I may be unclear..correct me if this is wrong: There are rewards through Lowe's or through vehicle option upgrades, under the program, and it allows you to order specific options (which, although I've never done it, I always assumed that you could just do that anyway, if you were willing to wait longer for that vehicle, and pay accordingly...?), but what it does not do is give you fleet pricing like the folks who buy 10 at a time. Sound close?

Here's a link to Business Choice Program:

GM Business Choice

There are two choices: Upfits and Cards.

If you don't want the $500.00 Lowe's card then:

Click on Upfits.

There are two options. Option A and Option B.

Click on each one and read. Make sure you click van or truck.

I have not used these options.

But from what I read, you can chose items that have no Co-Pay and some that have a Co-Pay.

I just took the Lowe's $500.00 card. But if you have a specific need for a truck or van then certainly take those options if you make out better cost wise.

Just to reinforce what I have repeatedly stated. Most salespersons know zilch about the details of this program. Bigger dealerships that do Fleet Sales do know more about Business Choice as there are some similiarities in options and colors.

Business Choice Program does not give you Fleet prices. You have to actually be a Fleet to get Fleet sales prices.

If people do their homework before entering the final sales pitch, then people will get all the benefits of the Business Choice Program.

One GMC/Buick dealership I visited did not do any Fleet sales and knew nothing about Business Choice Program and sales manager stated to me that he did not want to even look it up. So there is some resistence at some dealerships.

I know many don't care or don't qualify for Business Choice.

And some of this information is NOT about Business Choice.

I am thinking about purchasing a Colorado and/or Canyon.

I am seeking Doeskin color (light brown) which is not in catalog. And Decal Delete.

I contacted a dealer that does do Fleet and Busines Choice.

And I received an email from the internet salesperson stating quite clearly that

1. Doeskin is a $325.00 option

2. That Decal Delete is not available

Now most people would give up at this point. The dealership states that this is true and correct.

I continued to contact this dealership and pointed out the actual order code numbers: 9V9 and 9M4 and low and behold.

The dealer telephones me and states that yes, Doeskin color cost is $0.00 and Decal Delete IS available at $0.00.

Persistence and patience is needed.
