As long as you are not violating a GM warranty or lease agreement, GM can only "request" you not post info to You Tube. Now if GM wants to work out a deal with you for a new truck, they can add in "not allowed" with the deal. Until that time though, keep doing what you’re doing, GM may agree to quiet you. Someone else on this forum posts that he is “not allowed” to talk about the issue anymore, but he also got a new truck.

If all of the replaced items were not broken or defective and were replaced with the same part to figure out a problem, then yes, the issue will be unchanged. If the part was upgraded in some way, then it makes sense. GM was throwing crap on the wall to see what stuck until it just wore you out or you got lucky enough to get out of the deal. That's a very flaky dealer, but at the end of the day you're only concerned with your truck being fixed.

Load it down and get on it in an unpopulated area, you'll really know if the trans is slipping. Changing anything on my truck right now is not going to happen. These trucks are hit and miss with issues, either you get one that has them or not. My truck doesn't have any issues, so I don't want to press my luck. I have a couple more years until my extended warranty expires, then I'll let some folks I know in a hod rod shop change some things out, like lowering, replacing suspension components, different wheels and whatever else the wife wants since it's her truck. I do have a good dealer and mechanic, but Central California coast is a bit too far for you.

Been on the forum for a few years, have not read any transmission problems as you describe it. Walk like a duck, talk like a duck, look like a duck, then it must be a duck. This sounds like an easy one, can't believe they said "a shutter issue and that the trans is electronic and it's shifting between gears". If that's what the dealer thought, they would have said it on the first visit vs saying it on visit 4-5? I wouldn't buy that 50/50 crap. Still, if the owners manual doesn't make that claim, how do they and expect you to be ok with it. My truck doesn't do it, tell those guys to show you something or fix it. But take it to another dealership, after 4-5 times these guys are not going to make anything happen. Nice wheels and tires btw.

^^^Just replaced a leaky oil pan gasket, '01 5.3 Chevy. For a 100 bucks, I got my favorite oil, filter, and a good gasket then spent another 100 for labor to include blasting out the pan.

I owned generation 2 (00 - 06), gen 3 (07-14), and gen 4 (15 - current) at the same time and conducted some comparisons. As for the down, up, middle suspension bounce, gen 2 was the best and gen 3 was the worst. If you are going to spend some money for new shocks, research what was on the gen 2 and purchase those, it should provide you the type of ride you are looking for. But based on the couple of earlier comments from owners with mag ride, it sounds like your shocks are faulty.

Not so fast on the shocks being bad. I started a thread a couple of years back about how bouncy Premium Ride Suspension (PRS) was, take a read to see if your truck is doing the same. Your standard down, up, middle expectation for a good shock on this generation is not accurate, at least with the PRS. But don't look at it as a dangerous ride, this is basic a characteristic of PRS in the fullsize SUV. Don't know if this is a fault of the Magnetic Ride, but my truck has been on the road for three years and it still rides great. Your explanation is commonly what I am used to, but I have adjusted my driving style and gotten used to the bouncing several times when I push down on the bumper. Go to the dealer and bounce a LT version and see if it bounces like you describe (it should), then if nothing is leaking on your shocks, change your driving style and save some money.

Bolts will come loose naturally with any shaking, but I would be more concerned with the long-term effects the shaking will have on the kid. If your kid got nauseated or vomited, these are concussion symptoms. You may want to take your kid to see a doctor and ensure you keep the record of the visit attributed to your shaking truck!

I had a vehicle with similar surging and my alternator was also appearing to put out good voltage. I disassembled the alternator to find I had worn magnets. I replaced the magnets and no more surging, changing out the alternator vs the magnets was just an easier recommendation. The alternator may not be the ticket, I only provided the troubleshooting suggestion because of a similar occurrence. But whatever works for you.

Took my truck into the shop last month and noticed bumps sounded extremely loud in the cabin. The dealer increased my tire pressure to 37 cold psi. I never noticed the loud sound of bumps prior to taking the truck in for maintenance, but then I never run more that 33 cold psi tire pressure in my truck. I usually tell the dealer not to adjust my tire pressure but forgot this time.

No, if GM doesn't figure out the issues with this gen 4, owners will have the same problems in the next gen 5. GM has corporate data, but they need to collect, assess, and compare owner data to decrease or eliminate issues with this truck.

Yes airflow does have an affect on vehicles, but we're not talking about all vehicles here. The style of the sideview mirrors on this truck is not the cause of buffeting. A "large" portion of the buffeting is probably due to thinner metal than previous generations combined with roof bows not being attached correctly. I'm sure another magazine will come out with their version of a silver bullet for buffeting, but a report being specific to the this truck would be more credible.

Don't need to, 'cause if the article is about fullsize GM SUVs buffeting from the side view mirror design, it's a lie. Or else my truck would be buffeting also.

I have stock mirrors and my truck does not buffet, not the mirrors. Can't see how outside mirrors can affect inside the cabin with windows rolled-up? Car and Driver may need to stick with the title of their magazine if their comment was in reference to the buffeting with the fullsize SUVs.

"Normal experience" on this thread is sorting through the issues you read. It may be luck vs due diligence if you buy one of these trucks without issues. Send me a PM if you're leaning hard on getting one.

The most common thoughts on this thread are the roof, suspension, AFM, ANC, thin sheet metal, rear axle, tires, wheels, and body mounts. If a truck does not exhibit any of these issues, some folks even say it's the people not the trucks. GM may correct some of the issues on generation 5, but for this one they are just throwing stuff on the wall to see what sticks. As for your trucks, the glaring differences (suspension and AFM) will be up to the dealer to get lucky, 'cause you won't be able to do anything about them and maintain some type of warranty. Your Escalade is not out of the woods, there is about a half dozen owners on the thread that had some of the worse problems. So don't change anything on your Cadillac, you might screw something up.

Sheetmetal density is different from gens 2, 3, and 4, but no difference from one gen 4 truck to another that doesn’t exhibit issues on this thread. Kind of agree with your assessment and evaluation with the detached bow piece. With the difference in suspension/length/engine size/ and tires, there could be multiple fixes, one solution may not fit all. You are not the first one to rig up something on their truck to get some satisfactory relief. Good post though, keep refining the plastic wedges then paint them body color, only you and the dealer will ever know . Disagree with rigging your truck then thinking this is what you paid for.

From the Chevrolet manual, page 9-70; "Use regular unleaded gasoline meeting ASTM specification D4814 with a posted octane rating of 87 or higher. Do not use gasoline with an octane rating below 87, as it may cause engine damage and will lower fuel economy". I use 89, but as long as you don't use below 87, no where in the manual does it say the truck will perform better with anything higher.

Yeah, sad news. There is no "fix", only "bandaids". And just like you said, the bandaid is wearing off. Issues associated with this thread is feast or famine, your truck either have the issues in some form, or it doesn't. Why the difference is the question, and maybe the answer.

Gen 3 (06-14) was pretty decent. I agree with the piece about the bows, I believe this is the only obvious issue that GM really issued a fix for. The gauge may be thinner and there is less, but what I don't agree with the thinner skin causing the boom. The problem is somewhere in the length, suspension, engine, transmission, and wheels. Whether singular or in combination. There is definitely problems, folks posting negative comments don't work for another manufacturer, but I am not sold on a design flaw. I have been driving long enough to know if I was experiencing issues on this thread, just not happening. If someone having issues could ride in my truck they would also not be sold on a design flaw. And no, I don't work for GM. But what puzzles me is when similar trucks to mine (Tahoe LT) are having some of the problems on this thread. The wheels would be the only difference, cause the length/suspension/engine/ and transmission are the same. But if everything is equal, then it would be quality of part suppliers and the lack of quality control at the plant after my rollout. At some point in time, GM went to three shifts, my truck was built at the end of 2013 or early 2014 cause it was at the dealership in Feb 2014. Sales and three shifts may have caused GM to rush the product and not screen part suppliers and quality checks compared to when mine hit the street. But time will tell with the Ford/Lincoln rollout if GM sacrificed early quality ahead of later sales or if the other manufacturers copy GMs template of length, transmission, engine, suspension, wheels and their products begin to exhibit the same problems. Like BuyAmerican said though, this is all just speculation and this stuff may be on GMs radar.

GM doesn't know what hit them either. They would first have to know what the problem is, then decide to do something about it. GM profit margin more than doubled for this half of 2016, doing anything about the issue would cut into that margin. Senior execs and major shareholders are not going to allow that to happen. It would be more acceptable to the company to figure this out with a new roll-out, why fool around with those profit margins. This current roll-out took 8 years, I don't see a solution in 2017. For GM to do anything about these issues, the customer needs to cut into that profit margin. And as a customer I know the fix, get something else. As Tobtek put it, "LandCruiser may not be as trick as an Escalade, but it rides 10x better with no buffeting or booming".
