  1. The sliders have a plastic frame that crack. The sealant is only a temporary solution. Some have had better luck then others. Sadly the 21’s are leaking to. The sealing of the window from the factory is poor. So the steps are sealant on top of the window may hold water out, removing the window and resealing, putting in a new window, and repeat till you get past the 3year 36,000 mile warranty.
  2. Pretty much once you add a package to the AT4 or SLT trim GM puts the slider in there also. I see people in the future negotiating solid windows in their buying. Just hard to believe three years and still no permanent solution.
  3. Sunroof comes optional on the SLT Convenience Package which includes the sliding window. The entry level SLT has a solid window but can’t come with the sunroof separate. I tried when I ordered my truck to get the solid. When I get the truck I’m putting the solid window in from the start. I’m not even going to play around with the slider.
  4. Called a local non chain place and they want $675 to install a solid window. Same price regardless of brand.
  5. From what I’m being told it’s about $425 for the aftermarket solid with defrost to $525 for a factory solid GM window installed. Sounds like cheap insurance. The aftermarket slider is a thought but probably coming down the same line.
  6. You can’t order a Denali or SLT without a slider. I’m leaning towards putting a solid window in when I pick my truck up from ordering to avoid the future problem.
  7. How does the rear defrost get power? Is there tow separate harnesses? One for the slider and another for the rear defrost? Spoiler appears to be the same regardless of which window you have.
  8. If you switched to a solid window from a slider is it still a possibility to have rear defrost? Safelite shows it would be around $400 to have a tinted solid window with defrost installed. I would imagine all would be needed is to pull the fuse for the slider function to not work.
  9. Can you order a higher model truck with a slider delete?
  10. The mirrors will still defrost and the window still slides just won’t defrost with the fuse pulled.
  11. I’ve been think of pulling the fuse or relay also. Do the heated mirrors still work when the button is pushed?
  12. When I was looking for my cap ARE didn’t have the one piece glass for the sides but they did have the better hinges like on the Leer 100XQ. Which are different then other Leer’s with the one open handle. The latch mechanism on the Leer was good on the showroom but once installed and adjusted it could be better. I was able to get keyless on my Leer cap.
  13. I have the Leer 100XL. Paint color also changes the price. Don’t forget to get the online coupon to help on the price. Luckily my blue was not an extra cost. Some places wanted to splice into the factory wiring instead of using a harness that plug and plays. The factory LED tail lights require a different harness.
  14. It could be done if you had custom brackets made or modified for the bumper of the 1500 to fit the 2500 frame and put the 1500 grill on the 2500.
  15. You can get the 6’-6” bed in a crew cab 1500 they are just hard to find.
  16. The top of the line Leer gets pricey. Your paying for the one piece side glass but they have the carpeted headliner standard. If I had to do it again I would apply a bed liner material myself instead of getting a headliner. Plus getting the standard windows brings the price down. I couldn’t do without the single handle for opening the rear glass but then again the keyless is nice.
  17. I looked for awhile for a used cap but in my area the 2014-18 caps are hard to come by especially in the short bed. A few standard bed caps come up every so often but they where priced high. Did find a lot of 08-13 caps.
  18. Leer and Century caps are the same. The Leer 100XQ doesn’t have a Century equivalent but it has one piece side windows. The main difference I was told was the rear window handle was different and the third brake light lense is clear on the Leer but red on the Century. Some dealers charge a premium for the Leer but most price the same. Look on withers web site for coupons. I have the Leer 100XL. Century Royal equals Leer 100XL and Century Ultra Sport equals Leer 100XR It has the headliner option, removable front slider, the rear lock works off my factory keyless remote, the plug kit for the wiring that’s plug and play, and pet screens that cover the normal screens. Even after adding weather stripping the hatch leaks water. I will try a few things when the weather warms up. It’s a combination of bad GM and Leer design. You can get the price under $2000 if you don’t add options. Boissys in DeMotte has good prices. I went to LC truck in Elkhart. It takes about a month to get a cap once ordered.
