@Thomas RodriguezI hear 'ya - fellow minnesotan here that has the same concerns - I also have the stock Altenza 22's that are lacking off road. I spend 3/4 time on the highway, no problem, but 1/4 time I'm pulling an RV, and have flashbacks to being stuck on wet grass with the slick street Bridgestones. Having said that, I don't want to give up anymore sidewall with the 285/45r22's, so I've looked at 285/50r22, and 305/45r22, to get some other size options. Nothing really looks like a great option, for the price of a lot of these, you could get takeoff 18's and open the options way up - which is my leaning. But I would like to get someones review on the BFG Trail Terrrains, too.

I'm Pissed! 🤬 Beware of GM
bwoodsmn replied to Transient's topic in 2019-2026 Silverado 1500 & Sierra 1500
Yeah, and the OP could have said something to the dealer, too - but thats not the point. I'm not blaming OP or the dealer - The point is VSI doesn't seem to have a path to support their customers to navigate thru software updates, which anymore seems to be a regular occurence- so if you do a VSI "upgrade" your factory firmware is stuck in time, so "buyer beware". VSI needs to work out a pathway for upgrades, or clearly state the potential for routine software updates disabling their system. I'm sorry the OP is stuck without a resolution path. -

@1454, I still don't blame the tech, or dealers, here. There is a TSB out there where the complaint is a distorted rear camera - the fix is a firmware flash. Its entirely possible thats the direction the tech was going when he flashed the firmware - we don't know, but you can't say for sure that its "Clearly a hardware issue to fix". Remember, the VSI updates are designed to leave a factory look - and none of the factory RPO codes were changed - so the tech had no idea the update had occurred - to be sure he could have asked, but there was no "tell" that might have tipped him off to do so. Thats a totally different situation than your analogy of a shaking aftermarket wheel, which is clearly an upgrade that is visible to the tech, and questions would be asked. In this situation the radio hardware looked exactly as it would have from the factory configuration. Having said that, @Transient still lost the use of his navigation update from VSI, which still sucks. I get that he's upset, he should be, but he's mad at the wrong people - VSI has to have a solution for this, right? Well, I went to MVI's website and I was appalled at the tone and positioning they take for customer support - like, there isn't any, to speak of, except by text message, and that is not in real time - they do not offer any real time support. I don't know how MVI can sell these upgrades without a path to update when the factory firmware updates - Apple, Android and Microsoft all update their firmware all the time, and we look to the software manufactures to follow with updates as needed to make their software work - MVI makes no mention of anything like that on their website - no support links whatsoever. I'd steer well clear of MVI until they fix that problem and have adequate support for ongoing updates. OP, did you log the problem with their online chat? Have they responded yet? I'll be happy to apologize to MVI when they help you, if that day ever comes. But until then, it's on them to have a path for resolution. -
FACTORY 22 INCH TIRES. HELP. NORTHERN CLIMATE
bwoodsmn replied to TylerRST's topic in Modifications, Wheels & Tires
If you are in the tire industry, what have you heard around the new BFG Trail Terrain? Not as aggressive as the TA KO2, Three-Peak snow rated, and also a cross between highway and Off-Road. I haven't seen them yet, but they look like a solid option for Minnesota driving. -
FACTORY 22 INCH TIRES. HELP. NORTHERN CLIMATE
bwoodsmn replied to TylerRST's topic in Modifications, Wheels & Tires
The Terra Grapplers and Ridge Grapplers from Nitto are also highly rated and available in 285/45/22. Lastly, the Michelin LT/X is available in 275/50/22 and is not a full A/T tread, but a lot more aggressive than the OEM tires, and they are a direct fit. I ran those for years in a Suburban, towing a trailer in Minnesota winters, and light off roading with an RV behind it. -

bwoodsmn replied to Transient's topic in 2019-2026 Silverado 1500 & Sierra 1500
The path for resolution for this goes thru MVI. I understand you're pissed at GM, but, how are they to know what aftermarket vendors are doing to their firmware to make the aftermarket devices work? Now, as far as MVI is concerned, it might be helpful to assume positive intent - it may very well be that the GM update that broke the system was not anticipated by MVI - and MVI needs to figure this out, not just for you, but for anyone considering buying their hardware. There's also no guarantee if GM winds back the firmware update, that the MVI system would then work. Its also a new update from GM, and I doubt that GM gave MVI any heads up the changes were coming. Give MVI a little tine to fix this, or at least to communicate to their customers what the modification path looks like. MVI has to consider that this might be an ongoing process, where GM updates , the MVI mods break, MVI sends an update, and on and on. MVI has a problem. Unfortunately its your's too. -
2020 Denali 22” replacement tires
bwoodsmn replied to TinIndian69's topic in 2019-2026 Silverado 1500 & Sierra 1500
The OP started this with a complaint about snow performance. The issue with the 22" street tires in this case is the snow performance. I don't think many on this forum would go serious off-roading with 22's. Low profile 22's with an aggressive tread make more sense in a snow environment. There are *not* many options for those. -
2020 Denali 22” replacement tires
bwoodsmn replied to TinIndian69's topic in 2019-2026 Silverado 1500 & Sierra 1500
I find it interesting that All Terrain tire options are limited for these trucks. The short sidewall must make the manufacturers nervous. Having said that, there are quite a few 22" wheels delivered on these trucks, so you'd think there would be more options. BFG does have a 22" AT tire, it's available in 33X12.5R22. However I don't think there's 12.5" available for tire width on these trucks. I'd very much like to be proved wrong. I'd like to see pics of a 33X12.5R22 on a stock level, if anyone has done that. Nitto 285/55r22 options that fit are available, for a more AT stance than the Michelin Defender. I've also read that the Nitto 305/45r22 fits stock, as well -
Detailed look at Sierra 1500 Denali interior
bwoodsmn replied to Fringe's topic in 2019-2026 Silverado 1500 & Sierra 1500
Hey OP, maybe change the title of this thread to clarify this is not the new 2022 refreshed interior, but the old 2019 version. -
2019 Sierra POS Infotainment Issues
bwoodsmn replied to Brad Viernow's topic in 2019-2026 Silverado 1500 & Sierra 1500
Brad, which radio system do you have - IOS or IOT? I had the IOT in my 2019 Silverado, and had all sorts of CarPlay issues. In 2020, when they added wireless CarPlay and the display enhancements, they also added memory to the processor. My 2021 IOT radio has nowhere near the radio issues (It sometimes takes longer than I want to index the songs, but it connects and functions). My story is similar to yours, in that I ended up trading the 2019 for the 2021 because of the early build gremlins, I was able to take advantage of the crazy trade prices last spring. I highly suspect the 2019 radios did not have enough on board processing power and memory to run the software - and that the only fix is going to be exchange the radio for a newer version, but thats not as simple as just swapping the radio, as the cameras and other connections were different in 2019 than 2020 and up. They pushed out an infotainment and electronics system that was not quite ready for prime time, and have since fixed it - but not retroactively to the older units. If you are ready to give up on GM, https://www.whiteautoandmedia.com/product/silverado-sierra-wireless-car-play-android-auto-navigation-and-hd-radio-upgrade/ might be place to start. -
Who's trading-in for a 2022?
bwoodsmn replied to SilveradoRST's topic in 2019-2026 Silverado 1500 & Sierra 1500
I doubt it - the 2021 is a much better vehicle than the 2019 was - they had a few years to work the electrical gremlins out. I'm very happy with the current model, the electrical updates will have to work themself out before I buy an early model run truck again. I'll be very curious to see how many of the update options actually get to the vehicle, with the current chip shortage. The current 2021's have several options unavailable now that were available earlier in the 2021 run. I also read that supercruise will have limited availability, so, I am interested to see what actually ships on the production models vs the preproduction units we have see so far. -
OP asks a great question - the stock 275/50r22 Tires don't leave a lot of options. I have not found a "three peak rated" tire in that size, I've been looking a lot, and I'm nervous that plus size tires will rub, and I'm not interested in a lift. So, it looks like the Michelin Defender (not "three peak rated") will end up on my truck.

The ladder will interfere - I'm not sure if it will "fail" the synchronization process, and give you the 3 cameras view, or if the sync will stich everything together and still show the vertical post of the ladder. Could you mount the camera to the left side vertical ladder rail? An aluminum plate drilled into the ladder, long enough to center the camera, would work, as long as it was rigid enough to not vibrate. Or you could offset the camera rearward until the ladder was out of the field of view.

the great High Country vs Denali debate
bwoodsmn replied to keerf's topic in 2019-2026 Silverado 1500 & Sierra 1500
It's not as great a difference in 2021 as it was in 2019. In 2019 the Multifunction tailgate and the Adaptive ride control were Denali only. As we move to 2021, those features are both available on High Country, which equalizes the feature set between the two greatly. It comes down to whether you like the chrome look of the Denali, or the body colored trim features of the High Country. Personally I like the two tone Umber and Black interior option on the High Country, the seats in the AT4 also have some brown trim to break up all that black in the Denali, and both seats have the same ventilation/vibration alert features. The GMC digital gauges are cosmetically different that the Chevy ones, the info displayed is the same. The sound deadening is the same, and both have the leaky rear window and the lifters that break, so, eventually it comes down to personal preferences, what's in stock, and where you can get the best deal. -

Trailer camera for 2021 GMC Sierra 1500
bwoodsmn replied to Doc Norris's topic in 2019-2026 Silverado 1500 & Sierra 1500
Look into this adapter from Furrion - its supposed to handle this issue: https://www.etrailer.com/Accessories-and-Parts/Furrion/FR74FR.html - I however went with the GM Camera (I have the 2-camera 360 view option) that displays on the center console, instead of the Furrion System. I found that adapter when I was researching trailer camera systems. -
2021 Silverado DFM/AFM
bwoodsmn replied to PClancey's topic in 2019-2026 Silverado 1500 & Sierra 1500
Did you buy the truck new? The window sticker will say if the DFM is there, or if you were one of the ones that bought a truck with the DFM Delete there will be a credit listed in the build options.. If you bought it used, you can tell by the RPO Codes which engine you have, and that will also call out DFM or not. As far as functioning, some people can hear it, or you would need an OBD reader that could display that info. Unlike the older AFM Trucks, there is no dash readout that shows engine status. -
Cameras stop when I installed a cab over camper
bwoodsmn replied to Tina Coury's topic in Troubleshooting, Warranty & Recalls
Not sure, but possibly the dealer can reprogram the cameras to "forget" the tailgate camera that was removed. I'm guessing the system diagnostics sensed the missing camera and shut it all down. -
Hello Eppieguy! I, also had a early-build 2019 High Country,I traded that off a few months ago when the trade value exceeded my patience dealing with some ongoing issues, and I ended up with a new 2021 High Country. I also noticed the difference in the cameras, and from what I've read here and elsewhere, its not just a camera issue, its a radio issue. There is some difference in the camera architecture in the 2019 version that changed in 2020 when they added the upgraded camera tech (bed camera, invisible trailer camera). White Automotive https://www.whiteautoandmedia.com has been doing some updates in this space, but I remember reading on their website there are several considerations before you can simply upgrade a camera.

High Country DRL's Worse?
bwoodsmn replied to shanemoon's topic in 2019-2026 Silverado 1500 & Sierra 1500
Yeah, the LED signature curtain Daytime Running Lamps have a wider illumination footprint and lens than the standard Silverado DRL. I have no way to measure the relative output, i suspect its about the same amount of light, however over a larger area, so it may appear less bright. I like the HC DRL, it fits that area of the grill better.
