Trailboss Trailer Backup Camera
Supercup replied to Jrodpic's topic in Modifications, Wheels & Tires
If you have that capability you willh have a two plug openings next to the 7 pin trailer hitch opening to plug in the GM back up cameras. If you don't have those plugs I don't believe you can add after the fact. I had a 2019 AT4- dealer said it had that capacity - it did not - ended up trading it for a 2020 AT4 with tow mirrors that did have it - night and day difference towing having tow mirrors, side and rear cameras working - really nice to have if you tow a lot. -
Looks great!
-
After the install you will need it aligned - so if local shop can do that as well and they do lots of BDS lift install - should be fine - if not since dealer does BDS and can do laser alignment after - they may be easier. You will love it - I love my BDS lift!

Are those 18" or 20" wheels? Looks great!

Standard height truck (not AT4/trail boss)? Pictures - sounds cool!

2021 AT4 Carbon pro 6.2L
Supercup replied to MANDINGO's topic in 2019-2026 Silverado 1500 & Sierra 1500
I had a 2019 AT4 Carbon Pro 6.2 - 10,000 miles - not a single issue, except the kicker tailgate speaker blue tooth went out - it was replaced under warranty (entire speaker set up). Half of the miles were towing a 24' enclosed car trailer. I have a 2020 AT4 Carbon Pro 6.2 - 7,000 miles so far, not a single issue, 90% of the miles towing. I switched as I tow a lot with the truck (have other daily driver) and I wanted tow mirrors - I can see so much better. Ride with stock Rancho shocks is good on road, but they are soft - they are 5-10 mph off road shocks, they quickly bottom out. Shock upgrade is a nice thing - you can go from Bilstein 5100 ($500 +/-), Fox 2.0 ($1,200 +/-) to full BDS lift with Fox 2.5 adj fronts and Fox 2.0 in back ($5K) to upgrade - with each of those choices you get better on and off road performance - so you just have to decide what is right for you. If you are on the road 90% of the time the stock Rancho's are fine - that is what I did with 2019 (Ready Lift level and same shocks). On the 2020 I went full BDS lift with Fox shocks - night/day difference on and off road plus lots of adjustability up front. It is a firmer ride, but so much more compliant and off road it is Raptor like. If you need a truck get one now - all the issues are pretty much worked out and as noted above you will get big discount on 2021 (I got $10k off from dealer and rebates on my 2020 after only about $6k on my 2019). Also all that new tech on the 2022 may have some time to get the bugs out - so if you get a 2021, keep it 3 years and then a 2024 all the bugs will be out! No bad choice - good luck with decision -
Spoke with install shop (who do a ton of BDS kits) and with BDS about UCA - neither felt it was needed for 2.5" lift - unless planning on pounding it offroad. I use is for towing and we go offroad when towing for RZR fun - so RZR will take pounding and truck will take lighter off road duty. I had UCA on my 2019 AT4 which was leveled with Ready Lift SST kit - they were great - but did stick out more that stock UCA so reduced inside tire room by about 3/4" from stock. since you have to have 0 to negative offset wheel (I had 18mm offset) you will pick up more inside room - but if you go 12.5" x 35 x 18, it will be tight on inside with 0 offset wheel. 2019 AT4 with 18 x 9 Method 18mm offset - 275/65/18 OEM Goodyear Duratracs

I have 2020 AT4 with tow mirrors - the only "manual" function of the mirror is the "extension" of the mirror if you are towing is done manually. They have all the tech and power folding in and out from inside thet truck. My truck came with them as an option. Pro's. For towing the rear vision is far superior to standard mirrors (I had 2019 AT4 with standard mirrors). Con's Mirrors are big and create large blind spots looking forward to the side Standard mirrors look much nicer in my view (I tried to extension mirrors to these to improve rear visibility - but the don't work very well - no comparison to real tow mirrors) Overall - if you tow an enclosed trailer - you need the tow mirrors - if an open trailer or boat, the standard with the cameras are probably ok. There are a couple of extended threads from people who switched including a step by step hook up to get all the cameras and electrical working. Here is one link: Good luck!

6" has different (long) shocks and larger block, longer drop brackts - but otherwise the same. You will like the Fox shocks a lot - big improvement over stock. I have 2020 AT4 with 2.5" lift with 2.5 fox adj. shocks up front and 2.0's in the rear. That is the same as the 4" kit for your truck. You can fit 33's no problem with right wheel offset (0 degrees to negative) but 35" are tight and will require a lot of trimming. 6" will allow for bigger tires. If considering rear spring pack - Deaver offers a great rear spring packs - call them, they will get you whatever you want - I have run them on last 3 trucks - great quality and good ride. 2021 at4 crew standard bed 28 gal fuel tank?
Supercup replied to Bob’s Sierra's topic in Modifications, Wheels & Tires
Only for gas - I know they have larger tanks for HD''s (2500/3500) and a replacement tank option. Be nice if they did a larger one for 3.0 - never thought to ask about that, as maybe could use that tank for gas as well? -
BDS 2.5” Coilover Trailboss/AT4

Why not - LOL! The 2020 with tow mirrors, cameras and BDS suspension is awesome! Could not be happier with the overall package. -
2021 at4 crew standard bed 28 gal fuel tank?
Supercup replied to Bob’s Sierra's topic in Modifications, Wheels & Tires
My 2020 AT4 has 24 gallon tank and it sucks for towing! Have spoken with both Tranfer Flow and Titan - neither have any plans to make a "replacement" tank - reason is the fuel tank is not part of the "emission" certification, so it can't be modified without impacting the emmission system. As far as a transfer tank goes - that is my plan - either in bed or something underneath. Lots of fuel pumps available in the boat industry that fit perfectly for this. Plan to put a new fitting in the fuel fill line and do a Y that will allow fuel to flow from the "extra" tank into the main tank. If I go with the bed tank - will be 40 gallon tank - so that allows for a lot more range. -
I am surprised by how poor your mileage was towing. I have seen as low as 4.5 mpg pushing hard with big load going up steep hill, but overall tow cycles are in the 8.2 to 9.6 range. Can you tell us how much your trailer weighs, how tall, type of towing terrain,- over mountains - head wind and your typical towing speed - other factors that may have impacted that. I only ask as I had a 2019 AT4 - 6.2 10 speed - towed about 10k miles with that and now have a 2020 AT4 (6.2 10 speed with tow mirrors) and have towed about 4,500 miles with it. The 2019 on a typical trip got 8.2-8.8 mpg - the 2020 on my last two trips (450 miles +/-- round trip) got 9.2 and 9.6 mpg respectively. All towing a 24' Inteck race car trailer (30' overall length) loaded to about 8,500 lbs. My typical tow loop is from Orange County to Sand Dunes (Gordon's Well - south end of Glamis) and back - which includes up and over a 4,200 foot grade over and back (about 50 miles of the trip is up and down in the mountains), there is aways wind in the mountains and often a head wind the last 5 miles out of the desert before you head up the mountain.

For AT4 - (your current equal) - the BDS 2.5" lift - is equal to a 4" lift on regular truck. The BDS 4" lift for AT4/TB - is a 6" lift on regular truck. I have AT4 with 2.5" coilover kit - it was expensive - but the upgraded shocks improve the overall ride and make the truck very offroad capable. If you have the budget you will not regret making the change. I had a 2019 AT4 with Ready Lift 2" SST level kit - the BDS set up is night and day better than that set up. Below is a photo of my truck wiht 2.5" BDS - you will see it still has some rake - if you want none you could leave out the BDS blocks and stick with the 2" blocks that came with 2" lift kit from GM you have on now, however it will be about 1/2" nose high. If you do just want to level with no shocks then Zone is a great option for you - Zone is owned by BDS - it is a similar kit with both made in the same warehouse and coilover shocks are "not" required - they offer a 4" lift for stock height - so 4" overall or a 4" to your current AT4 height - so 6" overall. Costs far less and does not require expensive Fox shocks. Links for those below: Zone 4" (4" over AT4 so 6: lift ) link: https://zoneoffroad.com/products/4-in-ifs-suspension-lift-kit-2019-2020-chevy-trail-boss-gmc-at4?variant=33699132702808 If you want to go back to "stock height" Zone also offers a 4" lift kit from stock height. Again - no shock purchase is required. Zone 4" (4" over stock, so 4: lift) - link: https://zoneoffroad.com/products/4-in-suspension-lift-kit?variant=33699132670040

When considering a level versus a lift - just know that your TB already is 2" lifted stock - so adding RL SST 2" level kit will take you over 4" of lift - which will not give you the best CV axel angles (see photo below). Also with RL SST level Ready Lift has a note and do not recommend use of "auto 4WD" so you lose that feature on your truck - due to CV angles putting lot of stress on front diff shifting on the fly. You are better off to go with a proper lift from BDS, Zone, Icon, Rough Country - that drop the front diff. You will spend twice as much (excluding shocks) as a level - but you will have proper CV angles. Everything has its trade off's. IF you level I would recommend you go with 1.75" or less (keeping you below 4" total). I had a 2019 AT4 and went with RL 2" SST level - found out about not being able to use auto 4WD after the fact - learned about axel angles - had no issues in 10k miles. Traded it for a 2020 AT4 with to mirrors (wanted tow mirror and trailer camera tech). Did BDS 2.5" lift kit - CV axels are pretty much level (better than stock). Only downside is dropping the diff, does reduced front ground clearance to the front diff the same about (about 2" from 10" to 8"). But you can run larger tires to get that back. I have 6.2 with 10 speed and performance pack from factory and could not be happier with that package! Well worth the extra dollars over the 5.3l if you will be towing. 2j019 AT4 with Ready Lift 2" level kit - OEM 275/65/18 Duratrac's note - cv angles 2020 AT4 - 2.5" BDS level kit - note perfect CV angle - OEM 275/65/18 Duratrac's 2020 with BDS Lift Kit

Trailboss/AT4 Towing Experience
Supercup replied to Jrodpic's topic in 2019-2026 Silverado 1500 & Sierra 1500
Your TB with 5.3 has good power and the 10 speed is the best tranny you can get - for towing a real plus. The weak points are the rear springs and shocks are soft (so a lot of squat) and the load range C tires, to get you a good ride everyday, will not be as stable as load range D or E. Up to 9,000 lbs. with a few upgrades you will be fine. I would not go much over 25' on a travel trailer - the wind sway on the TB/AT4 is a real issue not to be taken lightly. Remember if you got 5,500 dry - have 100 gallons of water - 800 lbs. and a 1,500 lbs of stuff you are north of 8,000 lbs pretty quick. I have an AT4 with 6.2 with OEM performance pack and I tow 24' Intech enclosed race trailer - empty it is about 4,500 lbs. Loaded ranges from 7,500 to 9,500 lbs. Tongue weight is 900 lbs. empty and 1,200 +/- loaded. I use a load level hitch and sway control as well. You will find that wind will move you around a lot, even with load level hitch and sway control. A few weeks back going over a local pass it was windy and the trailer was moving - had to slow down to 45 mph - have never had to do that before towing. But all the big trucks were doing the same. The load range C Goodyear Duratrac's are not ideal as the sidewall is not as stiff so it adds to the sway potential. I would recommend upgrading to load range D or E tires if going north of 6,000 lbs. I had about 2.5" of squat from 1,200 lbs of tongue weight. With load level hitch you can offset about half of that with load level hitch. That will impact what you can put in your bed as well - need to load from the cab back with as much weight closest to the cab. I plan to either add sumo springs or a new Deaver rear spring pack to help offset the tongue weight soon. Power wise the 5.3 with the 10 speed will have good power - up steeper grades when loaded you will work it hard resulting in poor mileage, but it will pull fine. I live in S. Cal and a lot of our tow routes include big hills along the way somewhere - I get 8 - 9 MPG towing on a 400 mile loop to the desert and back up and down a large grade each way. I get 4.5 mpg if I push hard on the grade, but can pick my speed and maintain at 9,500 lbs., at 7,500 I can accelerate uphill if I wish. Biggest flaw in the trucks is the 24 gallon fuel tank - giving you a range of less than 200 miles. That is the one thing I hate about the truck - 24 gallons is a complete joke, especially if towing. I would recommend an Equilizer load level and sway control hitch, sumo springs and load range D or higher tires as the base upgrades to tow a 25' travel trailer that is 5,500 lbs dry as you starting point. You should be good to go from there. Link: https://www.equalizerhitch.com/ Here is my set up -
BDS 2.5” Coilover Trailboss/AT4
Supercup replied to Trailboss75's topic in Modifications, Wheels & Tires
Turned out great! Thx for the update on the wheels and tire sizing - very helpful. Next step for me to swap out my current methods for one's with -12mm offset, like you got - gives me a great guide for tire size - probably go with 33/12/5/18 BFG's. How do you like the ride and performance now that it is installed? -
Transparent Trailer Camera
Supercup replied to sweatandsteel's topic in 2019-2026 Silverado 1500 & Sierra 1500
I am using the camera on my AT4 - to be honest I never set it up for tranparent view - just put it in the top middle of rear of the trailer - it gives a fantastic overview of what is behind the trailer. I went over the top of the trailer and down the front - I had about 8' of "excess" cable and my trailer is 24' - so maybe the limitation is cable length versus trailer length. regardless the camera is seemless, works really well, so I would get one, even if you don't set up in tranparent view - so nice to have everything in your Camera icon all set up to use. In your case if you mounted top rear - went 37 feet from back to front, then figure 12' down the front - 4' out the tongue plus 2' of slack for hook up - you are at 57' (37+12+4+2)j - so my guess with 59' of cable that is the limitation - but maybe when you center - you can't adjust to line up with side cameras and a have a clean clear rear view where all three cameras line up. Regardless I would recommend getting one and mounting on top rear of your trailer - great addtion. -
I had the same problem last few days - yesterday got a software update message via On star on NAV - clicked on that - checked the boxes to accept - did the update very quickly and after that all functions were back to working normal. You should be able to do the software update with via message you receive from On Star

Supercup replied to Supercup's topic in Modifications, Wheels & Tires
I have BDS 2.5" lift - looking to got to same 33/12.5/18 - still on OEM 275/65/18 now - looking forward to seeing how those fit when you are done and how much trimming is required. Should be a good all around set up. -
Weight Distribution Hitch
Supercup replied to IdahoElevation's topic in 2019-2026 Silverado 1500 & Sierra 1500
Two numbers on your weight equilization hitch - smaller one is tongue weight and bigger one is loaded trailer weight - want to get one that is more than these numbers, but not way over. I have a 1,400 / 12,000 lbs - my trailer has 1,200 lbs of tongue weight and is rated for 10,000 lbs - Not exact brand but this is same set up I have. Does the job and is affordable - but the Equiilizer hitch is the best one - and what I had on my last trailer - which I much preferred to this set up. This set up works fine, but more steps to hook up, more parts to deal with and not as good on sway control - but 30% the cost ($250/$800). I got this one as the day I bought the trailer I had to tow it home 500 miles and it was windy and it was all they had. Plan to replace it with an Equilizer hitch soon. Hitch information link: https://campaddict.com/weight-distribution-hitch/ - ton on information in this article. -

That would depend what your are towing - if a boat - maybe not needed - but it can't hurt - if a enclosed car trailer - absolutely want one - as when the wind kicks up - you will be thankful for the added stability and safetly! -
AT4 - Looking for 3-3.5" Level with Bigger Tire Photos
Supercup replied to ekraft84's topic in Modifications, Wheels & Tires
Hi, I had RL 2" SST on my 2019 - you can't use "auto 4wd" with that level kit. CV axel angels are pretty extreme (see photos below). With proper lift you spend more, you get level cv axel angles and the upgraded shock offer good ride and a lot of upgraded performance, especially offroad - but you do pay for that. Zone (owned by BDS) offers a lift with no shocks - that is a good option if the shocks are too expensive - but add them later. Only give up is when you drop the diff - you do give up some front ground clearance - stock is 10" - BDS to bottom of diff skid plate is a about 8.1" - so bigger tires are nice, if doing serious off road work. If you decide to go with RL SST kit - cheapest place I found it was Tire Rack - $586 (was $512 when I got for my 2019). LInk: https://www.tirerack.com/suspension/suspension.jsp?make=ReadyLIFT&model=SST+Lift+Kit&autoMake=GMC&autoModel=Sierra+1500+4WD&autoYear=2019&autoModClar=Crew+Cab The kits are the same for AT4 and Trail Boss. BDS has multiple options and Zone has level and lift option. Which UCA’s?- RC, Cognito, RL
Supercup replied to rico750sxi's topic in 2019-2026 Silverado 1500 & Sierra 1500
I had RL UCA's on my 2019 AT4 for 10,000 miles before I traded it in for a 2020 and had no issues. Only issue is they are bigger in circumferance - so they are a lot closer to tire that stock UCA with same wheels. Here are some photos - so if you want bigger tires, you may need ot change out wheels as well. the photos are of the UCA with stock 275/65/18 Duratracs on Method 18"x9" NV wheels with a 18mm offset - the stock 18" AT4 wheel is 26mm.
