I am unsure of what you are getting at. Are you saying that magnaride has issues? If so its not applicable to the truck we are talking about here, one ton dually's do not have magnaride, that is a feature on the 1500 model trucks not 2500/3500. On a 3500 the suspension the suspension does not change based on trim level, torsion bars, a big leaf pack on the rear and regular ol shocks for all one ton DRW.
-
What makes it different from any other GM 1 ton? This is not a 1/2 ton with magnaride or anything like that.
-
I think it will be. Like i mentioned before my new Denali 3500 dually rides smoother than the RAM 2500 it replaced. I am still amazed by how well it rides for such a heavy truck.

I see it that way too. I don't think its a we can't build them thing as much at it is a we don't want to build them thing.... All the press events Ford has done crack me up, its like " hey look at us and our new trucks" yet you cannot order one and customers that did while the books were open are being told to wait over 18 months to get it..... It is tough right now and there are just none on the lots. I had to buy mine site unseen since all the ones coming in are spoken for before they ever hit the dealer lots. This is what happens when your competition cant ship trucks, the demand for ones that can be obtained go up.... Where are you located? If your in Florida id be happy to let you check mine out. As i mentioned in my other post im impressed with the ride of mine. Its decent over everything but square edged bumps, around me the worst are the speed bumps in the neighborhood and the rain drainage channels otherwise its fine. I expected it to be a lot harsher than it is.
-
See above for the measurements of my truck. One thing i think you may want to double check is the rail dimensions if your truck is going to be a SRW. My truck is a DRW and i think it may make a difference given that the plastic trim part numbers are different depending on DRW or SRW. I think the rest of the dimensions would be the same.

You are in a similar place to me. I also have an F450 platinum on order since Oct 2022 that i was originally expecting in the April 2023 timeframe. Latest i have heard from the Ford dealer as of a month ago is i might see the truck in June of 2024. For me it got to the point that i could not wait any longer, our new 5th wheel is coming soon and i will need a DRW to pull it so i started looking elsewhere and GM was really the only company that is actually actually delivering high trim level duallies right now. By the time i started looking in June RAM had closed the order books for 2023 and dealers had no idea when the trucks they had on order would actually come in. Ford cant seem to deliver anything higher than a Lariat and even those have deleted features and the dealers are marking them up like crazy where i am. The only Lariat i found was an F350 and the dealer was asking 112k for it MSRP was ~82. No freaking way i'm paying a dime over MSRP for one let alone 30k. Big difference for me is this is not at all my first rodeo with GM having owned Silverado's and Sierra 1/2 tons in the past, im not a brand loyal kind of guy being that i was coming out of a 2019 RAM 2500 Limited when i got this truck. This is also my first diesel truck. The Ford would have been the first one i have owned since the 1984 Ranger i had in high school in the early 90's. I ended up landing on either a High country Chevy or a GMC Denali. I ended up not going with the Denali Ultimate for one big reason and that is the interior color, My wife and I both hate the chocolate milk colored interior, we could not get past it. Its the same reason my 2014 Chevy was an LTZ and not a High country as they only offered the HC with a chocolate brown interior back then. We also did not feel the other features were worth 10k, massage seats would have been the only thing we would have wanted but they were simply not worth 10k to us especially with the interior color being such a non starter. I ended up finding a Denali with a black interior that was on its way from the factory with everything i wanted that was not yet spoken for so i snagged it. It came in about two weeks after i put a deposit on it and i have now had it about a month. I have not had a chance to pull much with it since our new RV is still awaiting paint but my first impressions of the truck are pretty good. I am most impressed with the ride and the unloaded fuel economy. This truck actually rides better than my RAM 2500 did and by a fair bit which shocks me. The RAM was quite harsh and this truck is not at all over most bumps. Same with the fuel economy at least unloaded, this truck is significantly better on fuel on the freeway than the ram was. i had a 6.4l Hemi and 4.10 gears, it was a pig on the freeway at ~12 unloaded. This Denali will get 18.5 all day which to me is quite a pleasant surprise for such a big, heavy truck. I don't think this truck is much different fuel economy wise than my 2014 1500 was with the 6.2l gas. I do have some things i don't like about it or i wish GM did better. I think the RAM interior is probably the best in the industry and i like it more than i do the Denali. The console storage is better thought out and i personally like the RAM seats a lot better. I also think GM could have done a lot better job on the gauge cluster, there are just a few items missing like what gear its in, engine oil temp and pressure in numbers, stuff like that. I also wish GM gave options for gearing in these trucks. I would really prefer 4.10's over the 3.42's that come with it. Gearing was the big reason i was going to buy a Ford initially. I know people say with the 10 speed you don't need the lower differential gears but you can still get low gears with a 10 speed in the Ford. I think when towing heavy you cant have enough mechanical leverage... Over all i think we are going to be plenty happy with the truck. If i truly don't like the gearing i will regear it just like i did my 2006 Silvy that came with 3.42's, i'm hopeful i wont have to. Range wise i think i will be fine with the 36 gal tank since we don't like to drive much beyond 300 miles in a day and that should be doable without a refuel with our trailer in tow. If not there are 60 gal aftermarket options available that i will look into. I am also disappointed in some of the towing "tech" like the "invisible trailer" and trailer TPMS. Neither will work on my trailer due to its size and since its a 5th wheel and over 35' the "invisible trailer" thing wont work. The TPMS will only go to 100psi from what i have read not the 125 i need for the H rated tires that will be on my trailer, i believe the TPMS also has a max wheel to truck distance of 23' as well which my 46' trailer will exceed. People also mention on a trailer like mine the valve stems for the sensors are too small and will not fit the wheels. Neither of these are a showstopper but its just that they tout all this "pro grade" tech but its really useless on a larger trailer. Good luck with the new truck. Post up some pics when you get it.

This one is not a roll up, it’s a tri fold style. I have had lots of roll ups in the past from Extang, Truxedo etc. After having a tri fold on my last truck i dont think i could ever go back to a roller. I had a factory tri fold that came on that truck and when it got damaged by a storm and needed to be replaced i bought this same Extang ALX and really liked it. For me it was the natural choice for my new 2024.
-
Not sure if anyone else has run into this but it seems like the aftermarket vendors don't list much for the 2024's yet. Did a little digging on the OEM cover options and found in the soft covers the part for a 24 is the same for a 20-23 truck. I took a leap of faith and ordered an Extang Trifecta ALX for my 2024 3500 with an 8' bed. It fits perfectly and all the hardware for the latches fit like they should. Super easy install. Figured i would put this out there in case anyone else was looking.

Picked up my 2024 Denali 3500 :)
nitro882 replied to nitro882's topic in 2020-2026 Silverado HD & Sierra HD
Thanks for this, i did a little research and i have the cables on order so I can set this up, it looks really easy. Im not sure i care about the "invisible view" so much as i just want the camera on the rear for backing up which it should support at my trailer length. I ordered the cables today so i can do this swap. The thing that gets me is this little thing from the manual. They show the camera connector and right underneath it they say with the 5th wheel package its in the bed which its clearly not based of what i see with my truck. -

This is thew way i understood it too. If that is the case it makes no sense to not have connections for it in the bed too. I still don't understand the 4 pin in the bed. I would think any gooseneck or 5er would need a 7 making the 4 pin useless. I need to grab my meter and see if the 4 pin is even wired. Im going to be towing a 46' 5th wheel with this truck so i will find out more when i get the trailer. Another thing i find very odd with this truck. The "user profiles" thing in the infotainment system. Its useless. All it does it set the presets and some infotainment options for the user. It does not change anything else, One would think it would change the dash layout, seat location, mirrors etc to that users settings but it does not. My wife's 2020 Hyundai Santa Fe can do it why not this 2024? I feel the same way about the bed lights, my 2019 RAM would pop them on as soon as the tailgate was dropped. If you wanted to turn them off for any reason there was a switch right on the left rear light. Makes no sense to not see something that simple on a truck in 2024 especially one costing north of 90k. Overall the truck is great. Rides way better than i ever thought a 1 ton would ride based off prior 3/4 ton ownership and i am also pleasantly surprised with the fuel economy for such a heavy truck. My last HD which was a 3/4 ton gasser got 10 everywhere no matter what, this truck has already seen 18 on the freeway according to the confuser. It also feels quite quick for such a big heavy truck, it has no problem getting out of its own way for sure. -
Took home this yesterday, it finally came in. So far so good. Just trying to learn the truck now and im sure i will have lots of questions and i have a few now. Does anyone know if there is a way to have the bed light go on when you drop the tailgate? I also have a question on the trailer connectors. Why did GM only put camera inputs on the bumper? Seems like an odd place for them if you have a 5th wheel or a gooseneck. Also i noticed in the bed there is a 4 pin connector along with the 7 pin i would expect for a 5er/gooseneck, why would they not put that on the bumper where it would make sense for a small trailer?

Holliston is a tiny little town between Framingham and Milford. Its one of those if you blink you miss it kind of places but a very nice place to live. In a lot of ways i'm going to miss it but i am not going to miss winter that's for sure. Right now we are in St Pete and not too far from the gulf, like a 5 min ride form St Pete beach. With the constant sea breeze i have not noticed the humidity yet but there is still time.... Once we get the truck and RV the plan is to be in the RV full time and we probably wont be down here in the summer after this year.

We just made a very similar drive from Mass to Florida a couple of weeks ago. We moved down here and i was towing my enclosed trailer with about 4k in it with my half ton. We did it in 3 days, if i had a do over i think i would stretch it to 4. We had our dogs with us so we were stopping every couple of hours for a break for both them and us. Our days ended up about 11 total hours between hotels which I feel like was too much. I feel like the extra day would have got us into the 8 hours on the road range which would have been better for me I was pretty tired after day 3. The truck was fine, no issues there and pretty relaxed driving it was just a lot of it.... We have plans to RV full time once we get our rig and truck( hopefully in a week or two on the truck) and we are already thinking we don't want to drive much more than 350 miles in a day.

failed lifters 2015 6.2 - JUNK motor
nitro882 replied to crushNchowda's topic in 2014-2018 Silverado 1500 & Sierra 1500
When I had mine I ended up doing a diablo tuner on it to get rid of the afm and reprogram the transmission for crisper shifting. I hated the way it drove with the afm enabled, mine always had a distinct hesitation when it switched from 4 to 8. I had around 30k on it when I installed the tune and I noticed no discernible difference in fuel economy for the remainder of the time I owned the truck. It always got like 14 city 19 freeway. -
How many miles? Engine work if any?
nitro882 replied to mookdoc6's topic in 2014-2018 Silverado 1500 & Sierra 1500
2014 6.2 15k #7 injector replaced due to cold start issue 30k #7 valve spring replaced, spring was busted. 40k radiator replaced, leaking from seam 40k oil cooler lines replaced, leaking at crimp 60k #3 injector replace, cold start issue, 70k ac compressor replaced 80k starter replaced, smoking when cranking trunk 80k alternator replaced, bad bearing. 80k new battery 85k punched out and traded it in.... When I did mine I had to remove the sway bar end links and also separate the upper ball joints to get the originals out and the new ones in. Mine were set to stock height and I swapped the factory springs onto the new shocks. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk

failed lifters 2015 6.2 - JUNK motor
nitro882 replied to crushNchowda's topic in 2014-2018 Silverado 1500 & Sierra 1500
I just read this entire thread and a lot of it hits home with me. My 2014 6.2L had been in the shop way more than it should for a truck with 80k on it. I just looked in the folder i keep all my receipts in and the truck has been to the dealer 20 times in 80k miles for warranty work and recalls. That averages out to once every 4000 miles, that's way too much. I never experienced any lifter failures but i did have a busted valve spring on #7 when i hit like 30k on the motor. It was fixed and has never happened again. Like the original poster I also had a leaky roof from the 3rd brake light gasket, a failed starter that almost caught fire, my "infotainment" system has been plagues by crashes and lockups, and mine has been a shakerado since day 1. That shake has gotten worse with age, a lot worse. Given what one of these trucks costs i simply expect the truck to be better than this. Mine is a fully loaded LTZ that i had to order since i wanted a 6.2l with the 3.73 gears and that meant i needed to get a max tow. Those were basically unicorns in 2014 so i had no choice but to order it and wait. When i ordered mine there was not a single one on a dealer lot in the country and none being built in the pipeline. Needless to say i waited a loooong time for GM to get around to building my truck. Given all the problems I have had with it i would say its an understatement to say I'm disappointed and have been for a while. My 2006 Silverado was the best vehicle i have ever owned and i wish i never got rid of it, even with 200k on the clock it was more reliable than my 2014 has been. I wanted to drive this truck for 10 years when i ordered it, its not going to make 5...... All that said tomorrow will be the last day of my ownership for my 2014 Silverado. I am trading it in on a new truck, and while i feel a little bittersweet and a little nervous it wont be another GM. I really wanted to like 2019, i really did but when i drive one it reminded me of every reason i want out of my 2014 and given the 65k+ price tag on a truck equipped like the one i already own that was not happening. I don't want another shakerado, i don't want another truck with a transmission that cant make up its mind as to what gear it needs to be in, etc.... I ended up in another brand and i pick it up tomorrow, wish me luck.... -
What have you done to your K2 today?
nitro882 replied to block8head's topic in Modifications & Accessories
I installed a B&M transmission pan to go along with the rear diff cover i installed a few weeks back. I am so glad i did it. The oil was gross, it was last flushed ~30k ago. Today i did the pan and filter and filled it back up with Amsoil ATF. I also did the transfer case too. The front and rear ends are both also filled with Amsoil. The pan was kind of a pain to install since i had to drop the Y pipe to get some clearance but beyond that is was easy. One thing i will note on the transmission is it shifts way better than before, not sure if its a placebo effect or not but it has never felt as good as it does today since it was new. The rear end seems a lot less clunky too with the heavier oil in there, the factory oil was like water. The pan, A sample of the oil i drained from the transmission The rear diff cover i put on a few weeks ago -
I just did 5100's all around on mine last weekend. I had the stock black shocks that come with the max tow package. So far im really happy, truck rides better than it ever did. My originals were smoked at 65k, 3 out of 4 were leaking and the one on the right rear had like an inch of up and down slop in it and i had developed a nice little shake on the freeway, that is gone now.

It comes in what looks like a toothpaste tube. You can get it at autozone/advance etc. looks like this.

100k+ mile update for 2014+ trucks?
nitro882 replied to Cjmooch's topic in 2014-2018 Silverado 1500 & Sierra 1500
My 2014 ltz 6.2l 4x4 is at 60k now, not quite 100k yet but it had a few issues. its been back for 3 recalls 1 bad injector on #7 caused poor idle on cold start and mil light busted valve spring on #7, put the whole truck in panic mode had a coolant leak on the radiator, radiator and t stat replaced lower ball joints being replaced today. Things that have not been/will never be fixed. The "infotainment" system is total crap, slow, buggy, crashes.... Transmission is horrible. -
I used some black 3M weatherstrip adhesive on my 14 to keep them in place. Been good for 2 years now.
-
Check the lower ball joints too, mine was clunking when turning into my driveway and the lowers were loose. Passengers side had a ton of play in it and the drivers while better was shot too. My 14 4WD has 60k on it FWIW.
