  1. Grumpy, not sure why you are questioning if I am “gray”, I sure don’t question if you are “Grumpy”. I just said a dealer can charge whatever they want. If they want to double MSRP they can. May not sell too many but you don’t have to buy. Depends on how bad you want it.
  2. I know the dealer never owns free and clear, but they are between the buyer and the manufacturer. Most of us can’t buy directly from GM. Supply and demand are what drive prices on everything. Look at the stock market. Anything that is for sale is only worth what some is willing to pay. If someone is willing to pay for add ons, dealers will put them on to increase bottom line or not discount as much. If their competitors don’t and they don’t sell, they change. Right now with the supply and demand, many do not have too. I am sure when you sell your truck you will want every dollar you can get.
  3. The dirt on the first door falls on the second door then in the tank when they are opened. That is the way gravity works.
  4. I sure would like to know the part number. I hate not having one. Can’t believe GM would build an “off road” truck without one. I put a cap from a spray paint can over mine to help keep dirt out.
  5. The point is the dealer owns the vehicle. They can add anything they want and charge any price they want. Depends on how bad they want to sell. Just like Chevrolet can stick any option in a package and you can’t deleted it. The question is do you want it bad enough to buy it that way and at that price. Same thing when it is yours you can add flames if you want. Some might like, others may not when you get ready to sell. . My 09 and 12 had movable pedals. Wouldn’t give a nickel for them but had to pay for them as part of a package I wanted. Back when I ordered my 1980 K10 Silverado you could get what you wanted. I ordered power windows without power locks, pretty rare. No tilt and no cruise control. Even deleted the radio. You cannot do that now.
  6. Depends on how bad you need one.
  7. Dealer add-ons that they will not remove are not uncommon. Just depends on how bad you want the truck. If not you, the next person will come in and pay for them. Especially in this tight market. Person that owns 3 of the 4 new car lots in my town plus 4 more in a 15 mile radius adds $799 paint/interior protection on every vehicle. They will not even order one for you without it. To beat it all, they only warranty the protection for 12 months. If you want to buy from him, you take it. And considering he is one of the largest Chevrolet dealers in the state, a lot of people do. (Not me, the last 3 trucks I have bought have been at least 125 miles away to avoid add-ons.) At least it didn’t have the biggest ripoff, $99 nitrogen tire fill. If you really like the truck, just consider it has a $1200 option on it that you would not have ordered, but for a lot vehicle you suck it up and take it anyway. Most people do that all the time. My 2 cents.
  8. Have you held that button down about 3-4 seconds?
  9. My 20 CC TB LT 5.3 is 1701.
  10. The maximum payload on a truck comes from a regular cab 2 wheel drive. By the time you get to an AT4, with 4 wheel drive, bigger engine and crew cab, you have added a lot of weight which takes away from carrying capacity.
  11. I have owned 13 GM vehicles over the past 40 years. All do that. It takes about 100 miles for them to move off full. Then slow until 1/2 tank, then the bottom falls out. On the other hand, my Mustang GT will be at 3/4 tank 30 miles into a tank and is slow the rest of the way. My dad drove nothing but Fords and I recall all of his did the same. Even rental GMs are the same way. Nothing to worry about, just know the once you get to 1/2, prepare to fill up soon.
  12. There is backup light power in the 7 pin wire harness. It is used to turn off the brakes when backing up a boat trailer with surge brakes. You could use power from that.
  13. While I will agree that I would like a larger fuel tank, this one is bigger than my first new Chevy. I had a ‘80 K10 regular cab, short bed. If I recall it had a 16 gallon tank. About 200 miles was all I could get before refueling. At least GM gave the option of ordering dual tanks, but money was tight.

  15. I am wondering why GM would install a cap less system on a truck????. I miss the “click” of making sure it is sealed off.
  16. So I guess you are doing what I wasn’t going to do. So I guess you were telling me that I shouldn’t use a K&N filter. Maybe Delco will put a nut on their’s so they will come off.
  17. Not to tell anyone what oil or oil filter to use, and since the OP asked which filter, let me throw one out that I don’t see listed in this post. I use a K&N filter. I am not going to throw out specs or say it is the best, but here is why I use them. I have continuously owned at least one GM product since 1976. I was always an AC-Delco man. As the commercials said, “keep your GM car all GM”. I figured if the people that designed the car/truck specified the filter, it was good enough for me. I kept that opinion until I got my 2012 Silverado. After several times changing oil and getting mad at the engineers that placed that big filter in that tiny cavity that no wrench would easily remove, I went to K&N with the 1” nut so I could remove it with a socket and extension. So it is 3 times the cost of the AC, but the hassle cost more than that. Easy on, easy off and no issues with Mobile 1.
  18. I will agree. I wanted an LTZ, but even though I am in my early 60’s, I like the look of a “low” lifted truck (My wife, all 5’-4” of her, drives a Wangler Rubicon with the factory 2” lift). I didn’t want the hassle of doing an aftermarket lift. Since the Z71 is supposed to be the off road package, I don’t understand why they just didn’t add the lift, shocks, tires, etc. to the Z71 package. Or at least a Z71 “+” package similar to the Z71 appearance package.
  19. Speaking of this, what is the reason for eliminating the fuel cap? No way the spring loaded flapper can seal out foreign materials as well as a screw on cap.
  20. I know that GM installs certain options as only part of packages to standardize and reduce “their” cost. Back in 1980 I ordered a K10 Silverado (Silverado was a trim level back then, like LTZ) and you could order almost any option by itself. I was able to get power windows without power locks. 4 speed manual too. Now if you order certain options you have to get a package or some packages are not available with certain options. The only thing I couldn’t get when I ordered the available tachometer was a clock. The tach replaced the fuel gauge which was moved to the clock location. Pre-LED display in the radio so the clock was analog in the display console.
  21. You have got to remember when you are not moving you are not getting the airflow across the coolers so that may be some of the issue. I was always told about 100 degrees over ambient is normal temperature under normal driving.
  22. I saw a silver truck with the black stripes last week on a lot in Myrtle Beach, SC. Thought it was a dealer add on stripe to look like a late 60/early 70's Camaro. Then I saw a red one with the black stripes and black wheels Monday morning sitting outside the fence at a dealer near Charlotte where it had just gotten off the truck. I started wondering then if it was a new package. Makes me wonder now why the "October" delivery date.
