Parts Prices In Canada

Hello new here

is anyone as frustrated as me ?

does anyone know where to get a decent price on GM parts

in Calgary Alberta the dealers here are a total rip off!

If we try to order from the us we get hosed on taxes and duty

but even then its still cheaper then the local GM dealer

You would think that with ebay and LMC truck and all the big aftermarket

places you can order from they might want to encourage their customers to buy from them not scare them off!

I don't think there's a "one stop shop"; you have to spend a lot of time searching the net. I buy a fair bit from the US but it sure is time consuming. The key is to find a company that is good at trans border sales; lots say they sell into Canada but they really aren't that good at it.

I don't even consider buying from the US unless the Cdn dollar is over 90 cents.

There's a small parts shop near me with really knowledgeable guys and reasonable prices, so I'm going to buy more from them. They buy from the US and it does cost me a little more than if I bought direct, but they deal with the headaches.

It is frustrating to see our American friends with way more selection at much better prices.

Yea man I'm at least as frustrated as you! Recently I've been looking at all kinds of goodies for my truck and candian prices are either ridiculous or they can't even get the part! For example, when I priced out wheels for my truck I priced out american racing, dick cepek, mickey thompson, etc and all were ridiculously priced compared to american prices. There were a few places I could ahve bought them that would have shipped them to me but in the end it would have been the same price as buying locally. I've done a fair bit of modding in my time (pretty much modded everything I've ever owned, and built a 12 second camaro from the ground up) and I've found that sometimes places like Jegs, or Summit, or Ebay can be the way to go but other times you just have to make due with what we can get. I'm in Saskatchewan and luckily work right next to a Kal-Tire whose owner is a good bud of mine and he's usually good at finding solutions!

well what happens to me is I search and search and finally give up and call the dealer

then after I get up off the floor from hearing the price !

ie: a passenger side heated electric mirror w/signal light $860.00 from GM!!!!

common at least kiss me first!

LMC $79.00 approx us ea $200 to get it here but in one piece is another story on UPS

and the right one to match is another.

example2 :wanted to put factory front fog lights on my silver in the bumper $40.00 each just for the wire connectors so I don't have to cut the factory harness

$560.00 for the lights nope sorry I was born at night just not last night!

who makes up these prices ? isn't their job to sell parts to gm customers so why don't they?? I don't get it

Looks like we have a similiar on-line source.

http://www.gmpartsdirect.ca/

Don't know whose running it but the website is registered in Ontario somewhere.

No idea what they're like to deal with.

Thanks for the link, I haven't checked the site our thoroughly yet but I am sure it will come in very handy! :flag:

I hear what you guys are saying too. I use Ebay quite a bit now for truck parts, electronics etc. Do your research first though when pricing stuff out since sometimes the price can be similar here. One thing I've learned is to avoid UPS and Fedex. Although they provide decent service within the country, they're terrible to use when crossing the border. They always nail us with "brokerage fees" which a lot of the time can be almost 25% the cost of the part. Ship whatever you can with USPS. It may be a bit slower, but you don't get hit with a bunch of fees. Good luck with the parts shopping.

+1

And plus your package doesn't look like it was air-dropped from 10,000ft and the chute failed. USPS via Canada Post are a great choice.

Just to underscore this point, I had one package shipped up from the U.S. via ground freight pre-paid! The shipper paid the $12 bucks but I got ass-raped by UPS for $57 for brokerage, fuel surcharges, admin, PST, GST, and probably prep H for the driver. Apparently, air shipments through a carrier, which cost an arm-and-a-leg include brokerage (and the extra fees). Ground freight does not and you pay huge if you don't have your own brokerage service.

The last parcel I got from BlueStar(GM hands-free bluetooth unit for NBS) came up USPS and was delivered to my door without any remittance form for taxes (there's no brokerage when you use USPS/Canada Post but they will want local taxes which aren't too much). Sometimes, perhaps based on value or appearance, they don't even bother you for the GST/PST, just like when you cross the border with a $100 worth of goods and they just wave you through.

Is it just somethings they have no price for and you cant add to the shopping cart, or are they still just setting up?
