09 Sierra Denali

Just bought a 09 sierra denali and was wondering if anyone has any advice on a few simple mods to help this truck out, either performance or just looks.

Truck seems to have some delay with throttle response but still doesnt have 200 miles yet, how long till the engine is fully broken in and see the mileage to expect and the performance.

Wondering about a tune, but also worried about warrenty. I was considering keeping my stock pcm and swapping in a differnt one with a tune. But not sure about the crank relearn procedure??? Also how do these trucks run with 87 octance since i wont always be able to get 93 as i live in northern saskatchewan canada.

Hey Brendon..

Well... since the engines are designed to run on 91 or higher, you can get a performance tune from Justin at Black Bear Performance and have him write the tune to run on 87 Octane. Yes, there are some warranty concerns.... but honestly if you can not get 91 octane due to location, it's actually safer/better for the truck to be tuned for 87

A lot of the delay you're noticing now will go away. It took about 1000 miles for my truck to "wake up". From what i've read, its the TCM (transmission control module) learning your driving style and setting its parameters. Although, even after it "wakes up"... there will still be delays due to the TM (Torque Management) programmed in these trucks (Justin can take care of that too )

Sounds like you're in a very similar situation to me. I just bought a 09 GMC crew cab with the 6.2 and live in southern Saskatchewan so i dont always have access to 91 or 93 octane fuel. I contacted Blackbear about getting a tune done so i can run safely on 87 octane when i have to but was told that because of the high compression ratio (10.5:1) not much can be done other than removing some of the torque management programming to help out with the drivability and the crappy throttle response. If i was going to run atleast 91 all the time then he can do alot more. You should contact them just to be sure though.

If you want to get some good sound out of it try swapping out your muffler for something a little better flowing. I had a flo-pro muffler put in last week and love it.

Gentlemen, we have recently released an update for our U7194 Predator which adds support for all 09 GM gas V8 trucks, and we do offer an 87 octane tune.

We have many people running these tunes in their GM trucks, and there are no issues with the 87 octane tune.

Having the Predator allows you to change octane levels ANY TIME you want, as all it takes is a simple 2 minute reflash to go from 87, 91 or 93 octane tunes.

In addition, we offer you the ability to customize your tune should you feel a need to do so, like add/remove timing at WOT, add/remove fuel at WOT, adjust rev and speed limits, or tire size, and more, all without removing the PCM from the truck.

Plus, no worries about a dealer reflashing your truck and losing your tune, since you can plug the tool in an go back to stock at any time.

Sounds like a great product. Can this product remove any of the torque management talked so much about? Also im worried can the dealer tell the pcm has been played with and void my warrenty? or can i put back to stock and theres no way to tell i was changing parameters.

TM is reduced in the tunes, and there is no trace of the tune left in the PCM once you restore the stock tune to the truck.

We also have the new Trinity available for the NBS trucks, which has all the features of the Predator and then some...

TM is removed from the engine side of things.. but not the tranny yet... they are currently workin' on the TCM stuff now...

what kind of proof do you have that there is no trace of it after being taken off? say i put on the economy one and then take it off to have the dealer do somework and they decide to check the computer and see it was changed and void the warrenty. is your company going to pay for the warrenty work to be done for the rest of the warrenty period? thanks in advance

Really? I've been hearing that since 2007. Do they have a date for that yet?

One reason I ditched my DiabloSports Predator is because I got tired of hearing the "coming soon" line .. for two years, with no release date for it. It seemed like every few months, I'd hear the "coming soon" line and start thinking "Ok, this next update." The next update would come, nothing... The next update.. nothing. I gave up and got a Blackbear Performance tune (which he can tune the TCM, if you go to a "live" tuning session) and I have had no second thoughts, what so ever about leaving the Predator behind...

For me, for my money, the Blackbear tune is far and away better than the Predator and it has probably been the best performance-related money I've spent on my Sierra Denali. Tuning the transmission's shift points (upshifts and downshifts), torque management, etc. has made the truck a lot more .. shall we say .. "enjoyable" to drive. It is more responsive and ready to go.

Did I get some benefits from my DS Predator, when I was using it? Sure! But, aside from raising the rev limiter and removing the speed limiter, the truck still "acted" predominately the same. Yes, you can manually tweak things for fuel trims, etc., which I did.. Yes, it ran better. But, for me, I got a lot more bang for my buck with Blackbear..

It has been tested, and there is no trace.
