Do you have a receiver hitch? When mine is in, the hitch moves around a little bit in the receiver and it makes a very distinct metal on metal echoing clunk when I hit bumps at low speeds or shake the truck around.

no bud thanks tho, not that, i take my hitch out when im not using it. seems to me like is coming from the back of the leafs. and when you shake the truck by the rear wheels it almost sounds like the drums are makin some noise.

yeah i did, brought it to the dealer today and the mechanic figures its just the axle floating in the rear end. there was a buletin about re-torquing the leaf springs so they didnt that. seems to help in the bumps but if you rock it back and forth it still does it. oh well. got 5 and 3/4 years more warranty so not going to worry to much yet, its just one of those thing you know is there and bugs ya.

thanks, chris

Check the rear bracket on the tailpipe.

Also look at the rear of your drive shaft, does it have a shiny part (where the muffler was hitting it)?

I just got my truck back from the dealer (they did some warranty work) to find my tailpipe was hanging down because the bracket was no longer attached.

Here's my partially polished drive shaft;

Speaking of trucks getting more expensive I had a sticker shock when I looked at a new F 150 4X4 recently. It was a crew cab Lariat with just about every available options and the sticker was over $ 48k!!!!!!!! How the heck do they get a 1/2 ton pickup priced so high is beyond me. And it had the same anemic 5.4 liter engine.

yeah they def. want an arm and a leg for them these days. just went and check out my truck and it not the exhaust. it sound like it coming from the drums or something. it does it if you shake either side. wheel nuts are tight just checked them.

Clunking Noise??? Sounds like it might be comming from the rear hubs???

How many miles on her?

dealer says its only axle play. sounds pretty rough to be normal. bought a brand new truck and it sounds like i drive a piece of shit. any one with a 08-09 sierra grab the top of your back tire and shake it back and forth to see if you get this same knocking clunking sound.

Here's my bracket - I'm going to make them replace it.

If isn't broke just hook it back up. Those things don't just fall out so maybe it was removed for some work you had done?
