My Fogs Work With The Hi Beams! Do Yours!

Dealing with idiots approaching you with their high beams on is actually a good reason to do this mod. When you flash them with all six of your lights they usually dim their lights very quickly!

 

The best reason to do this mod is the wide and long light pattern that allows you to easily see deer or other hazzards both to the sides and way out in front of you.

Yeah i know there is a funtional purpose to this mod.. I live in the middle of nowhere and i see deer on the road daily...

 

But really how often do you see deer walkin through the city

Exactly the reason my HID fogs almost never get used. I did use them in the winding area of I-5 up near Shasta a couple weeks ago. They actually worked better than the high beams because they have wider coverage. But, frankly, I don't have a whole lot of opportunity for their use. Maybe they'll get some use on my trip to SoDak next month.

 

As for me getting any more HIDs, I doubt it. All the monkey motion to use HIDs as lo beams seems like a whole lotta dickin around. I don't want to loose DRLs nor do I want to have to hold the headlight switch over to the off position (on 2008 spring loaded rotating switch) when starting, I don't want to couple my fogs to the lo beams, I don't want any loss of auto headlight function, and frankly, I think the HIDs (especially the brighter and purple ones) and running fog lights all the time, are an attention getter to the cops and I don't need that either, especially if I've had a beer.

 

But I do like the idea of the "bulbzilla" conversion of my lo beams from H-11 to H-9 bulbs.

That is the only reason I want to make the "fog" lights come on when the high beams are on. Other than that, I don't even care if they are there.

I was considering doing this at one time until a state trooper buddy told me it was illegal. He said that it is illegal to have more than 4 lights at a time. I live in Arkansas, never looked up the law, just took his word for it.

Well I just got around to gettin mine done tonight, I'll test it out in the mornin, but I bought regular fuse taps at radio shack, and I filed them down, so the width was right, and then I rebent them to fit, and then I realized that it would be too thick, so I broke off one side of the u shape that holds the fuse prong, and then it worked like a charm

 

Yet another successful, cheap, and useful mod

What do you mean by problems? I have not had any issues here at all.

I just drove nearly 2000 miles from California to South Dakota for the pheasant openner. Mostly daylight driving, but some night driving as well. I did not have one opportunity/need, to turn on my HID fogs (which are now only useful as a high powered driving light, since I put HID bulbs in).

 

Frankly, my money was better spent on the Silver Star Ultra high beam bulbs and the H-9 low beam bulbs. And, they passed a Nebraska state trooper vehicle inspection.

 

I may put a halogen bulb type (probably a yellow for fog) back in my fogs as I'm finding they are not of value to me for my driving.

Where could I find the fuse taps in the picture. I looked at radioshack and it only had the taps that go down in the block with it

I used the ones from radio shack, and since the U-shaped part that goes into the block was too thick, I just broke off half of the u, so it's just like 2 pins going into the block, but it isn't nasty tight

In some states it's even illegal to drive with fog lights on outside of inclimate weather (Fog).

I did that to my Avalanche a while back. Cheap/cool mod. I was going to include my DRLs into the mix but I thought it was overkill.
