Thinking About Buying A "compact" Truck.

Guys,

I'm thinking about buying a compact pickup, 4x4. Primarily it would be a dd, but would also be used to tow a 3500lb boat for short trips, camping, a little wheeling now and then, etc.

To be honest, right now I'm leaning towards a Tacoma but have not settled on anything. Any stand out reasons for me to go w/ a GM?

2009 Colorado or Canyon with the 5.3L :) . I had a 2005 Inline 5 crew cab Z71 and it was a great little truck. Towed about 4200 pounds every other weekend from San Diego to Pismo, never missed a beat. Traded it in on my Sierra with 71K and cried like a girl that day.

The 5.3L V8 is over kill but the 3.7L 5cyl is a great engine for your needs.

A few pics of the old Colorado. :D

I don't have brand loyaltiy like some. I have owned a Ford, Dodge, Chevrolet, GMC trucks. No Nippon trucks though.

The most reliable was my Chevy and GMC.

But do your homework. Look at what is in stock. Look at the costs/price/return at trade-in. Do drive the trucks you are interested in. Some seats are better than others.

Up my way there are very few Colarado/Canyons in stock. Lot's were sold in the Cash for Clunkers leaving dealer lots empty. Factory is probably filling ordered trucks and fleet sales.

I have my GM Mastercard points up to limit (on what I plan to purchase next). And it will probably be another GM truck.

I think the only other smaller truck I would consider would be a Dodge Dakota. I think the body is built more substantially than a Colorado. I would've been happier if GM had reinforced the body on that truck in more areas. The Colorado just feels too light to me in a number of areas; such as the doors and pickup bed. The four GM vehicles I own are the ones that seem very solid to me; 69 Firebird, 98 Firebird, 89 Chev K1500 EC, and my H3T.
