Removing Front Struts

I want to remove my front struts so I can replace them with Bilstein HD's. I want to take them out as a unit with the coil spring and do that work of switching it over to the new strut on the bench. Does anyone know what's involved in getting the struts out? Do I have to disconnect any ball joints or the sway bar, etc?

3 nuts on top, 2 bolts on the bottom. If you have a leveling kit, separating the upper ball joint helps a lot, and the sway bar is easy to disconnect.

 

Some say they can just slip it all together with the ball joint connected, even with a leveling kit, not sure how.

I just did my installation of new Bilstein HD struts. It can be done without disconnecting anything other than the strut itself.
