99 Suburban 4wd

Hello all.. first time here. I have a 99 suburban 4wd. had the tires rotated and balanced this weekend and the service technician showed me where the front passenger side wheel was wiggling. He told me a bushing was starting to wear out. He showed me where. I am assuming it is the upper control arm (looks like a large tuning fork) bushing.

I have a couple of questions...

 

How serious is this?

How easy is it to replace?

Are there any instructions on how to replace it?

Should I just take it to my mechanic (I can do a lot of things, but some major stuff, I leave it to the machanic)?

Control arm bushings are a pain in the a$. but certainly not impossible to do yourself... just be aware that after you are done you will require a front end alignment.

 

If you are going to do this it might be easier to get a used one from a wrecker (control arm that is) replace the bushings and ball joint in it and then install the whole thing as an assembly. In order to do this you are pretty much dissmantling the entire steering suspension system on one side of your truck. I have a hoist and still don't enjoy doing them.

 

If you have good hand tools and jack stands it can be done in your driveway.
