ok people i have a 96 silverado sportside 350 ci

can anyone tell me the differance between a z71 and normal truck if any :lol:

Based on my memory........

Z71 would have different shocks (I don't recall the type), off-road skid plates, and a higher capacity air-filter.

 

In earlier years, Z71 was only available on 4x4's.....but not anymore. Thus, a 2x4 can still be Z71.

Z71 .... designates that the truck has 3 things:

- Bilsteen gas shocks

- the Z71 Stickers

- and depending on the model, it may have a skid plate.

 

Z71 can be on either a 2wd or a 4wd truck

Before 1999 Z71 had Bilstein shocks. The yellow ones

 

1999 -2007 classic Z71s had Tenneco shocks ( Monroes), the red ones.

 

all Z71 full size trucks before the GMT 900 were 4x4, I believe the first Z71s to be two wheel Dr was the Colorado and Canyon 2005 I think.

 

They had skid plates and Z71 stickers

 

There were a few others options along the way depending what year it was.

 

This is from the dealer book , equipment groups for 2005. I just happen to have this one.

 

Z71 Suspension Package, off road, includes 1.81 46mm shocks, off road jounce bumpers, stabilizer bars, nzz skid plate package, KN47 high capacity air cleaner, and........Z71 decals on rear quarters.

 

1--Requires 4WD Models-included with (PDL) Off Road Package.

Don pretty much sumed it up for the "pre-'99" trucks.

The '88-'99 GMT400 Z71 trucks were all 4x4s and had Bilstein shocks,Skid plates,Z71 decals,and specific jounce bumpers.

The '99-up GMT800/GMT900 trucks is where things get a little more confusing,as GM changed the content almost every year.

The Colorado/Canyons were the first to offer a 2wd Z71 pkg.,followed by the Tahoe/Suburbans,then the pickups.

Also,The skid plates was available as a separate option as RPO code "NZZ"

Well "All-Terrain" tires are a "required" option with the Z71 package,but oddly are not part of the package.

For the '96-'99 GMT400s the required tire would have either been a P265/75R16 Goodyear Wrangler RT/S or an LT245/75R16 "C" Firestone Steeltex A/T.

For '95-older the required tire was an LT265/75R16 "C" Goodyear Wrangler TD.

2wd GMT400 trucks had 15" wheels,4wd GMT400 trucks had 16" wheels,Z71 or not.

 

All '99-up GMT800 trucks,2 or 4wd,had 16" wheels standard,with 17's becoming optional in '04,and standard in '05.

      You're better read than that Atlas. 😏   British science fiction writer Arthur C. Clarke formulated three adages that are known as Clarke's three laws, of which the third law – that "any sufficiently advanced technology is indistinguishable from magic" – is the best known and most widely cited.   Stribeck and the pivotable Hersey Number isn't voodoo nor snake oil. That part is physics. It's what marketing and bean counters do with it that is snake oil and voodoo.    Stribeck is the relationship between Hersey and the Coefficient of Friction. Within the Hersey Equation if viscosity and viscosity is 'Dependent' on.......heat.......and.......viscosity index or the temperature to viscosity slope.    Specifically Hersey is the viscosity AT THE TEMPERATURE IN THAT LOCATION FOR THAT SLOPE.   Hydrodynamic lubrication exist when the film thickness in the location is 3X the Ra roughness of the surface. This is irrespective of the hardness of the substrate. To obtain that thickness X viscosity is required for Y velocity at Z load. That's a lot of moving parts. It is also impossible to maintain in an ICE but nearly possible with a turbine under constant load.    What does that mean? Error heavy and operate light. Wear is inevitable but the rate of wear and the milage obtainable are a function of prevailing conditions and HABITS. The only penalty is viscous drag and at fractions so low as to be well worth the effort. Double the life, half the manufacturing carbon foot print. Greed is the only impediment.    The materials generated by SwRI are the RESULT not an estimation or a hypothesis.    Don't delude yourself sir, EV's have as many pitfalls as ICE's. We just don't know what they are yet and it will take longer to sort as MARKETING and GREEDY CEO's have had more time to polish the turd they are selling.

      You can always count on greed to prey on ignorance and stupidity.    Friend bought a 2019 Ford Flex and asked me about using Valvoline R&P 5W30 in it. Told him give the miles on it and the fact it wasn't yet using oil that it was a good plan. He uses a Valvoline quick change shop for his oil service.   First they tell him that isn't the oil the OEM recommends. He told them he didn't care what the OEM thought. Then they floated the, "But it will void your warranty"    His reply was it's a 2019, there is no warranty and informed them their knowledge of the law was lacking.    Then they tell him 'But it will ruin your motor"!.    Mine to ruin he says. Finally they give in and charge him 150% the semi-syn price    Point it the brainwash is so embedded that even the service industry is drunk on their swill. The public is right behind them. Echoing the same lies on every forum and media platform. If the end goal is indeed EV then I'd say that ship is about built.
