2009 2500hd Ext. Cab 4x4 "good Deal"?

I have spent a couple days looking at the local dealers. Found a couple trucks I like.

2009 2500HD E.C. 4x4 Z-71 4.10 axles. MSRP 40,449.00. (3,599 total options)

11,500 for my trade (2003 2500 HD E.C. 4x4 4.10 axles base model, 46k miles).

2032 dealer discount

4000 rebates

I have bought many new and used cars from dealers in the past, so this is not my first "cookout" by any means. This deal was presented to me within 20 mins. of arriving, including checking out my trade. No further negotiating, the salesman even handed me a copy of the offer sheet to keep, which really surprised me! I told him I had few others to checkout and would get back to him.

To me it seems to be a good deal, not a great deal. Is expecting another 2-3k off the sticker realistic? I have seen others post deals of over 20% off MSRP. I have seen one other model listed on a local dealer website 7600.00 off MSRP. Unfortunately wrong color and equipment.

I wouldn't do it. Take a close look at the new one, especially underneath. Then do the same for your 2003. Way to much plastic up front for a truck. There is a body shop a few miles from me and I saw a nbs 2500 there. It was backed into by a taller vehilce and the grill was destroyed, the bumber was cracked, and light assembly crushed. If you take a micro to the bumpers, you'll see they are alot thinner then your 03's. GM is going to be doing some upgrades on their trucks for next year and fix some bugs too from what I heard. If it were me, I would wait. I wouldn't write off GM because of their cut backs they did on their vehicles the last 3 years, they need to climb out of their hole and get strong again. I remember Ford having some bad years back to back, but finally climbed out of the hole and are making much better vehicles now. I plan on keeping my 03 for a long time and customized it to the way it should of been. more beef in the rear, stronger suspension in the front, ect. You only got 46,000 miles on it, whats the rush? BTW, that low offer for the trade in they are offering you is in insult imo. They will turn around and resale it for thousands more!

BTW, for $40,000.00 plus, does it have leather? Is it LS or LTZ? My truck which is an LS and came with 4:10's was $37k before taxes. These HD trucks always usually stay within price range of the yesteryears trucks. Unless that one has a nav and all the fancy gadgets?

Also here is an example of a dealer over pricing. I could of gotten this same exact Camaro SS with 2SS package minus the 21's for $10k less at another dealer. The mark up was $5k for the wheels and tires, couple thousand for wheel insurance, and then a windsheld insurance price. The sales guy insisted this was loaded, when I asked where is the spoiler he said that is the spoiler. Go to GM's website and you will find the real spoiler.

It was nice and fast, but was an automatic. I want the stick.. I think for $5k, i could get nicer wheels, I'd rather take that $5k and put it towards a SC.

To be honest my current truck has been great. I bought it new in Dec. 2002. I have taken very good care of it. To this point it has been very reliable. With that said, 7 New England winters is begining to show underneath. I know the nbs share the same chassis and are basically a reskin and seem to have more plastic and lighter body panels. I think this holds true for other manufacturers also, it is what it is. IMHO the interiors have come a long, long way. For my purposes, this is a work truck as well as my daily driver. No power locks or windows is a major pain in the azz. I must be getting old and lazy, lol.

The main reason I'm considering a new truck is with Fed. tax incentives i.e., sales tax credit and 50% depreciation bonus, I don't know if I will ever see a deal this good again on purchasing a new truck, the ain't gettin any cheaper!

i would do it. 22k for a brand new ext cab 2500 Z71? i think its a good deal and regardless of the problems of the newer trucks, they still look better and have a nicer interior. my $02.

You need to combat those NE winters, i know exactly how harsh they are on vehicles. I always spray my under chasis with a product called fluid film. If you looked under my truck, it doesn't look 6 years old. Yea it's a PITA applying this stuff when you don't have a lift, but it will help fight off the harsh side effects of winter salt. I did not like the idea of cut backs GM did to their nbs trucks. Went back to steal drive shafts, which always looks unsightly after water and salt get on it. I have a nice massive aluminum drive shaft which still looks brand new and is maintence free. GM also scrapped the rear disc brakes and went back to drums to save more money. I love having four wheel disc brakes, and especially the EBC slotted rotors I recently put on this year. They stop really good, and never fail when they get soaked with water. Then they also shelved the 8.1 which is only available if you get a 4500. The restrictions which they had to put on the duramax is a turn off, but again they had no choice.

I could under stand the no power windows thing, that really sucks not having power windows. Especially if you are driving and want the window on the passenger side down, impossible task to do while driving unless you got really long arms. I am not a fan of having the deep side wall bed like the route Ford went with their trucks prior. I like to be able to reach in and grab my equipment. Then on the 1500 nbs, GM only has 2 leafs and a helper, as opposed to my generation where they used 3 and a helper on the 1500's. Ford's F150 has 3 and a helper, so does the turdra. I dont remember if they lessen the stack on the 2500's, but the 4 and a helper was medicore at best for me, this is why I added another HD leaf. My interior works fine for me, it's my company work truck and the thought of having a fancy interior to stress over everytime one of my laborers gets in dirty from working would be a real headache. GM also did not use 17" rotors from what I heard with their 17" wheels which is just out right stupid. Again yet another cut back. IMO a 2500 is a work truck, not an escalade. I don't want a truck to ride real soft, I want it to ride and perform like a truck. Furthermore that new 6 speed transmission, it's needs to be tweaked better.

I can fully understand why GM did what they did when the nbs came out, thats why I am not holding any grudge against them. I have faith that not that far down the road GM will be putting quality back on the line. For me quality comes first, build a HD truck with HD parts, stop worrying about whether or not the HD truck rides comfortable enough. The snow, equipment, and my crew would care less about comfort and luxury.

The 2011 HD will have a brand new chassis with beefier front end parts.

Not sure if the whole frame and all is new or just the front end.

To me that doesn't sound like a good deal to me. Is you're 03 a WT or something? Only 46,000 miles and $11,500 trade! That's too low IMO. My 05 2500HD CCSB LS listed for about $37,000 new and I traded off my 00 1500 ExCab LS with 65,000 miles on it for a difference of $13,500. I felt pretty good about that. I think you have some work to do or at least do some looking around. I myself am waiting to see what the 2011's will be like before I dump my 05. Of course these newer ones have nicer interiors and the 6-speed tranny is an upgrade over my 2005. You have to weigh everything and see what stuff is worth to you.

Not sure if it was designated at the time I purchased it as a WT, I refer to it as a base model. No power windows, locks. It has a/c, tilt and cruise. The cruise I installed. There was a popular thread on this site way back on how to do it. Plug and play.

I'm very tempted to hold off until the redesigns hit the dealers. The prob with that is you are not going to see the large discounts and my trade value will drop.

Again, as I said, I have yet to counter offer. There is definately wiggle room. I received a postcard today from the salesman, 1 day after speaking with him. I try giving things a few days in a situation such as this.

Funny thing is, another dealer offered me 10,500 for it on a truck that stickered for 39k. Yet another dealer (where I purchased my current truck) would not give me a trade value on paper. He told me he could get me 20k off a 43k MSRP truck, only to asked if I could put 4,500 on top of my trade into the deal. He just kept talking numbers but would not produce an offer sheet. When I got up to leave, the keys to my truck were not in it, the salesman acted very surprised, he said they never remove the keys. This dealer had over 140 1500's and around 50 2500's, none of which I was interested in. A very large volume dealer filled with dirtbag looking salesmen using shady sales tactics. Just before I walked out another customer across the showroom got up and stormed out yelling. Quite interesting to say the least.
