How To Stop A Rust Spot

Recommended Posts

Posted

I was washing out my bed this weekend and noticed a bit of rust on the under side of my tailgate, on then under side where the seam is. It is right on the seam and about 3-4 inches long. What can I do to this area to stop the rust?

There is no way of stopping rust on a surface that has already stared except to sand it down the the bare medal and refinish it. However, that POR 15 works wonders i used it on my wife's old ford escape before i traded it in.

I've heard that the POR15 will break down with UV rays, i.e. sunlight. If this is a spot that won't see sunlight that should work well. There is another product that isn't affected by sunlight but I don't remember what it's called...

I don't think it will degrade its' rust inhibiting properties but it will fade. In areas on my Jeep that would see sun I put a coat of por15 chassie coat. It is uv tolerant and bonds well with the por15 rust inhibitor.
