Yukon Radio Problem

New guy here.

 

Wife's '03 Yukon just started having radio problems a couple of weeks ago. She told me that the sound would cut off from all of the speakers while playing the radio, cd, or XM and that after a couple of minutes it would come back on. It has the Bose radio system in it. I drove it the other day to verify this and it does stop working and then come back on. The last two days it has been working though, weird. I also noticed that when it cuts out, I can hit the dash just above the radio and the sound comes back on for a couple of seconds. Maybe my last hit fixed it.

 

I searched the forum for this problem and saw threads talk about it being the radio and some saying it is probably the amplifier. I wanted to be able to track this down some more before I take it to the dealer to fix and was hoping there might be something I could check before they tell me I need a new radio/amplifier. Also, if it is either one of these, is there somewhere I could buy them for less than the dealership? Thanks for any advice guys!

My first advice is .... if your wife tells you something is broken... don't assume it will work for you.

 

Secondly... perhaps you can find parts for this at a reasonable price at a wrecker/salvage yard ....
