Cat Back Exhaust

Hi All,

I am wondering if it will make a difference on my MPG or fuel economy if I replace my 2008 GMC 25000HD with 6.0 gas and stock exhaust with a new cat back system? I like the low rumble at idle of the stock system, but MPG and fuel economy are getting to be rather important, considering the cost of gas these days.

Thougths anyone....

Thanks

Ian

Wont help your MPG and may get worse. You might find yourself putting your foot into it more than normal. But they do sound much better and seem to run smoother to me

Ditto that! I blame my cat back for worse mileage cause I enjoy listening to the exhaust quite a bit. Especially when I drive through an area that has alot of buildings that are close to the road. Nothing better then hearing the engine roaring and echoing off the buildings and over powering the sound of a ricer with a shiny coffee can exhaust that sounds like garabage to begin with.

Thanks for the info guys....I figured that I would get a few more horses under the hood but I (my wife) is not willing to lower the MPG.

Mind you she says that in a year or two I can put in a small lift kit......

I would love to either add a GMPP touring exhaust, or an MBRP!! A friend has a Denali with the touring, and it sounds awesome outside, barely noticeable on the inside!!

Anyone have any experience with the Magnaflow system. I've seen claims of up to 25 hp. Is that BS? I would think it would almost have to be. I'm thinking about getting one, but geez they are super expensive. I've heard that the stock system is about as good as any aftermarket, but I would like to get a little more performance sound from the motor. I think others are right about the mileage thing. I got my Blackbear tune done a while back and I get the same or worse mileage now. Keep my foot in it too much!

i own a 2006 1500hd wiht the 6.0 i have a magnaflow cat back on it, its dual 3" in single 3.5" out with 4 inch tip...sounds really nice although has a little bit of a drone on the highway but its not that it doesnt bother my wife or wake up my new born! so it cant be that bad....the whole 25hp gain is bullshit man...it did seem too gain a little throttle responce tho!! and it seems too run smoother...anyways i paid 800 for the system and 300 too get it installed...worth every penny i think i love magnaflow had it on 3 trucks now...not too obnoxious but loud enough people know you got exhaust on ur rig...perfect!

$300 for install? WoW I could of got two trucks installed for that price for a cat back. $150 here to have it installed and welded, or was it $125 I can't remember now. This was at a midas or mineke shop.
