Fuel Pump Wiring Harness

Recommended Posts

... general wisdom is to replace the harness at the same time as a fuel pump

... there is sometimes corrosion that builds up on the wiring and contacts, so the price of the harness is well worth the investment in preventative maintenance

... saves the hassle and time of dropping the fuel tank again when you could have looked after it all at one time.... and saves getting stranded somewhere if the truck won't start for you.

Yeah, most new pumps has a new connector on top of the pump.

I know on my old pump the connector was like

and the new one was

So I had to change the wiring harness, when I changed my pump. The Carter Rep. told us that the harness should be changed every time on GM's trucks and cars. As, they tend to gather oxidation (corrosion) on the terminals causing a low voltage problem. Which leads to the death of the pump.
