Used Wheels Tpms

I am looking at buying some used wheels with tires for the winter. I want to make sure the wheels have the sensors still in them. The problem is that the tires are on the wheels, so I can't just look at the sensors.

Is there any way of telling if the sensors are still in there without taking off the other wheels? Can I just "re-learn" the new wheels with my original tires on the truck?

Thank you for any help!

Look at the valve stems. They aren't like standard rubber or chrome stems. You should be able to compare them to any truck with TPMS installed and determine if they are there or not.

Jim, thank you, I will have to take a look at that and compare them at home before I go to look at the wheels.

Any other ideas?

UPDATE:

Just went and looked at mine and they aren't all that distinguishable from any other valve stem... they are somewhat different, just not a lot.

Sorry about that.

No... JIM you were right- you just need to know what to look for.

NON-TPMS rubber stems looks like a normal schrader valve:

The TPMS stems have a smooth metal section in between the threads and the rubber section:

^^^see how it flares out after the thread section and then transitions into the rubber? That's a TPMS stem

Yip. Mine have that little 45 degree step past the threads. I guess they are different... just not as much as I remembered..

here's a slightly better picture of a non-tpms stem:

Here is one of my TPMS stems. Maybe this will help.

YES!

Thank you so much Sk1er18 and Zembones, that is exactly what I needed to know. I just did not want to buy wheels that I thought had the TPMS in them only to find out that they don't have it.

Thank you to both of you.

Thanks to Sk1er18, I learned how to actually tell them apart myself.
