[gmt900] Rubber On The Paint

Recommended Posts

I have a tool box on my truck. Each side of the toolbox are sitting on each edge of the cab. Before installing the toolbox, it is neccessary to install bands of sponge so it doesn't damage the paint of the cab...

The problem is the following:

With time, the sponge adjust itself and retract to the point that my toolbox move 2-3 inches... The toolbox doesn't stay in place! This toolbox is GM brand by the way.

I didn't call GM about this but I had one idea: Add a rubber band (20" x 3") so the toolbox stay in place and grip on the paint. I just don't want to damage the paint over the time (fading or decoloration, ...). I've seen bad things, what rubber is capable of on floor square tiles, vinyl, etc... Sometimes, it makes yellow spots.

You guys have any ideas on that? Or maybe you have a better idea than mine! I do not want to force the screws too much because it can damage the side of the cab (50lbs max on the screws)

The best solution is to install GM stick on bed rail caps and set the toolbox on top of those.

Are you sure I can install them with the toolbox on it? I need space to put screws and a shaped "U" metal bar...

How the Bed rail protector stay in place? With double side tapes?

Yeah they just stick right on using the 3M double sided tape. I can take pictures for you tomorrow if you like. Let me know.

Is it normal that I cannot push the toolbox completly because of the bed liner? THe bedliner seems to block me and there is a space of 4 inches between the toolbox and the cab...

ok guys, just to let you know that I installed my Rail protector on my truck. it fit perfectly well. Then, I installed the tool box on top of them. I also added a 0.25" rubber band to prevent toolbox moving.

THank you guys for your help. I know not all of you is using a toolbox but I appreciate the time you guys took to answer my question!

If anyone of you want to install a toolbox, I REALLY RECOMMEND INSTALLING RAIL PROECTOR!!!

haha glad to hear you got it in ok, i've been really busy and didnt have a chance to take pics. glad it would out though. Im a big fan of my tool box, coming from a full size tahoe,to now having only an ext cab pick i really notice the lack of interior storage.
