Transmission Cooler

I'm adding a Reese aftermarket trailer hitch and the wiring connector to my 2007 NBS Silverado. I would also like to add a transmission cooler. What size on the radiator would you say should be the bare minimum?

Autozone has a 5 X 12 3/4 inch kit for $29.99. Would this be enough? The most I ever plan on towing is a small camper trailer in the future. Right now I need to tow a small trailer for moving.

Most transmission coolers are rated for a certain GVW. Keep in mind this number is total GVW truck and trailer combine. If you have a 1500 go with like a 16,000 pound GVW cooler. If you have a 2500 or 3500 no less then the 24,000 pound cooler. The coolers at autozone are OK but look to a B&M or Derale Cooler to get good quality that won't leak in the future. Just my opinion.

Get the largest stacked plate style.

Some even have an internal temp bypass feature.

I went with the Derale stacked plate style with fan and bypassed the rad cooler.

How easy is it to install an aftermarket transmission cooler in a GMT900 that didn't come with one? Are the lines already there?

you should have a real small transmission cooler out front or your transmission lines go into the radiator. Mostl likely if you don't see it out front the lines are going into the radiator at a minimum. If that is the case you take the return line from transmission cooler and add a section of hose there and go out front to where you would mount your cooler.....next go from the return on the cooler to the return line back by the radiator. The only thing your doing is adding one more piece to the loop. Be sure to check your fluid as it will go down with the filling of the new cooler and lines plus what drips out while your adding line to the radiator.
