265 0r 285 Tires?

I have a 06 2500hd cc 4wd and I plan to upgrade to the 08 09 17" OEM wheels. I currently have 285 tires which look mostly for offroad on 16" steel rims. I will mostly use for towing a car trailer, and gas milage is important to me. I like the looks of the wider 285 tire, do the 265" tires look much narrower, to the point of looking undersized? and will the wider tire affect my gas milage that much?

Thanks

Steve

The 285's will effect your mileage... Plain and simple. It's wider, taller and heavier. The 265's look pretty good, but if mileage wasn't an issue, the 285's do look better especially on the HD's

Mileage on the 2500's is going to be 11-15.. and I'm sure you'll see 1-2mpg drop if you go larger than 265's.

Mileage and also expense. HD trucks love to eat tires regardless of how heavy your foot is. Buying new tires every 12-20 months adds up. I remember going through tires very fast on muscle cars, cause of the heavy driving habit I had, and they lasted longer most times then the tires on my HD trucks.
