I was wondering if any of you had a diagram for the steering system on the 07+ 1500 trucks. I am hearing some noise coming from the steering box on the dr side frame at the end of the steering shaft. I can see it moving and making the noise. Service is saying it is something else related to the lowering kit I installed. I just want to educate myself for the next time I talk to them.

thanks in advance. Matt

What kind of noise is it?

Try taking the steering shaft off of the rack (that steering "box" is a "rack and pinion" setup) and see if the noise is in the shaft itself. You would also pop off the tie-rods and turn the steering wheel to isolate the rack & pinion.

Do you have a camera where you can take a short video of whats going on? We may be able to help you figure it out before you go back.

The dealer still has the truck. The noise is coming from the steering box on top of the rack. When you turn the wheel back and forth a bit, you hear this clunk/play sound. If you look down through the engine comp. at the steering box at the end of the shaft on the driver side, you can see the box moving side to side. This side to side movment is producing the clunck sound.

I have been trying to find a diagram for houes now with no success.

There should be NO movement there....

Did you remove and reinstall the steering rack when you lowered the truck? lol id hate for you to have loose bolts and get charged for a new rack by the dealer...not that they'd do that

PERFECT!!!! thanks.

The two bolts that hold the rack to the frame are tight. I checked them myself. The rack shifts back and forth in the area where the arrow is. Its like there are play in the inner workings of the rack.
