Dl3 Mirrors

I bought a set of DL3 mirrors that came of a 09 Silverado and installed them on my 08 gmc sierra. My truck had the DL8 mirror that c/w power mirror and heated mirror. The DL3 mirrors have 2 connectors on them, 1 white and 1 black, the black connector is the only one that I could connect. So, this gave me power, heated mirrors with the turn signals, cannot connect the white connector for the power fold, because there is nothing there to conect it to. No flashing of the BCM was required to make all that work. My question now is, can I just add a separate aftermarket switch and mount it somewhere to make the powere fold and unfold work?

The short answer is yes you can. No programming was required because the switches that the other connectors connect to is for the door module (the switches are part of this item) are the programmable piece to this. You can get them used and already programmed, but your door harness does not have the proper connectors without replacing the door harness.

it would be cool if you could just wire the second harness to the ignition somehow so that they automatically fold in when the ignition is shut off...

so, if I replace the door harness on the drivers side and get the proper power fold switch everything will connect including the two connecters on the DL3 mirror?

Does the switch and harness need to be replaced on the passenger side as well?? Becuase my 08 sierra does not have passenger controlled outside rear view mirrors, does the 2nd connecter on the passenger side DL3 mirror need to be connected??Any idea how hard it is to change the door wiring harness.

Thank you for your input

Yes you would have to change both harnesses in both doors along with both door modules so you can plug in the mirrors. I cant say how hard it would be to change the harness as I haven't messed with those at all. IMO I think it would be more work than it is worth just to have the folding feature, but if that's something you really want then by all means go for it! Best thing to do would probably go to a junk yard or something and find a donor truck with all the switches and wiring you need then you can see what is involved in at least removing the harness. At least that way you don't mess up your truck!
