Blind Spotz Mirrors

Since the mirrors on the new body style trucks have the funny cutout for the mounts, I decided to pick up a pair of these to fill in the empty spot.  They are curved so that you can see everything behind you.  And they tape to the mirror mount so it doesn't interfere with the normal outside mirrors.  I had 2 problems with these.  Driver's side worked well.  Passenger side one pointed too low and out to be useful.  Always felt like i was looking at the bottom of the trees on the right side of the road   Second problem was that after being on my truck for 2 days, my passenger side Blind Spotz mirror fell off.  Since it is held on with double sided tape, I would have expected the tape to not stick to the truck if the mirror fell off.  Instead, the tape held to the truck, but did not hold the mirror. The one bright spot is the customer service for Steel Horse Automotive.  They are very good in taking care of their customers.

The passenger side is a little worthless for viewing.  The only problem I've had (I haven't investigated any further yet) is that they are in the way of folding the mirrors completely.  Right now I have them off until I can look into if I didn't install correctly or it's just a design flaw.  Will add update.

Ultimately there just needs to be a mirror option (stickon??) at the bottom 1/8 of the mirrors looking similar to the GM extendable towing mirrors.

As far as stick on mirrors, I've found that these little ones work perfect for me.  They may not be the best for "big" towing though.  I can't remember the brand, but I do know I got tham at either K-Mart or Wal-Mart.  I've had them on for over a year with no problems.  What I like about them is that they are angled, and you can rotate them 360*, so you can put them right where you need them.   I think they cost around 4-5 dollars for both of them.

The mirrors won't be able to fold if the Blind Spotz are in place.  I checked because I didn't want to knock them off accidently.  Because of the cutout for the mirror mount, the mirrors always looked like they were missing something.

I found out from a couple of friends that they too have tried the Blind Spotz for various vehicles; prev gen GM, Ford, Dodge Caravan.  All seem to inhibit mirror folding in some way or completely.

I took the Blind Spotz back to Pep Boys for refund (was $5.99 + tax).  I tried to stay with Blind Spotz, found Excursion version which would have mounted on the mirror glass, but the curve didn't match.

At Wally's-Megalo Mart for $1.96 each + tax,  I got CIPA's 2x2 square one corner rounded.  It fits perfect on the outside lower corners and you have complete visability.

Still not like the wide angle on the GM towing mirrors, but I am 9.5 out of 10 satisfied (not a 10 only because I had my mind set on a certain look).

I have had the blind spots on for a year now.  I thought that they would be great.  The drivers side has been OK.  I have to say the passenger side point s to low and doesn’t do much good.  I also made the mistake once and took my truck to the car wash when the kid folded my mirrors in to run it through it cased the blind spots to fall apart.  I put them back together and have continued to use them somewhat.  I have also noticed that over time the tape has begun to let loose and the mirrors are sagging down and thus causing the mirrors to become even more useless.

I guess I will have to look into the little round ones to stick on the mirrors.  I’d like to see a picture of the square ones that some of you have used.

I agree with the rest of you that someone needs to make a small concave mirror that could be stuck onto the lower portion of the mirror similar to the towing mirrors.

TexasZ71,

Mine were on for just a couple of days when the passenger side mirror begain to sag.  I lost it the same day.  After I lost the passenger one, I checked the driver's side and it was starting to sagging also. I went ahead and removed it so I wouldn't lose it too.

I have the same type Tom has.  I bought them at Advance for $2.99.  I have been pleased with them.

I added one of the cheap stick-on ones to my passenger side and it's worked great. It fell off finally after about 1.5 years. I replaced the double sided tape and it's back on. If you use these, clean your mirrors with rubbing alcohol before you stick them on. That'll help them stick better.
