Warranty Issue

While changing my oil today I noticed I had some spray on the lower A-arm, frame and sway bar on the passenger side, I could tell it was coming out of the front axle where the c/v joint joins in.

I called the dealer to make sure this is covered in my powertrain warranty. The best thing they can tell me is that I have to come in and pay a $90 diagnostic fee, then they submit that to see if its covered or not. I dont think its worth paying $90 when I know the seal might cost me $20-$30.

Anyone have this issue before that can either tell me its covered or give me the idea of a price on the seal and how much work it will be to get it changed? Because it looks like its only lost about 1oz of fluid I am not worried about doing it right now, I cleaned the surfaces and will be keeping a close watch in it.

I dont even know what to say about the dealers $90 fee.... I know they are not getting it out of me. Unreal! Maybe i need a new dealer?

My dealer doesn't charge a diagnostic fee for warranty work. I don't think you should have to pay up front. If it's covered, you shouldn't pay anything. If a dealer did that to me, I'd find a new dealer.

He has a 2006 and is out of the 3 years/36000 warranty. He is now into the powertrain warranty. Not every thing is covered now. If the defect should be covered the 90 dollars will be waved. If it should not be covered he will have to pay.

It may not be right but a lot of dealers are doing this today.

Gentlemen,

A bit of reasonable seepage may not be a real problem. To me, it is drops on the floor per week. One drop a week is not a big problem for me. One drop per night and I think it should be fixed.

I replaced the rear seal on my trans for a 1 drop per night drip. $2.93 for the seal and 20 minutes work.

Just had front hubs replaced on my 06 Z71 slt because the left front was showing play at only 44000 miles and a leak,I have a good dealer and service manager, they called me to advise of the problem and to say that a service bullitin was issed on the 06 Z71 addressing those issues and that to have the work done there was a $100 dollar deductable and they eat the rest.

Work completed and its quiter and no leaks.

Had a CV boot come apart on mine and they covered it under the power train warranty , they replace the whole axle shaft and no money out of pocket.

check the owners manual, it will have the details on the powertrain warranty & what is covered...I'm pretty sure there is a $100 deductible on it though..
